Europe, Japan, Canada, and anyone with a spine while the MAGATs celebrate handing Putin exactly what he wanted on a silver platter. Kamala warned us that Trump would sell out our allies and here we are watching it happen in real time, Zelensky calling everybody BUT the guy sitting in the Oval Office throwing a tantrum because he wants credit without doing any work.

Ukraine turning to new partners is what happens when Washington makes support look like a personality feud instead of a steady policy. Trump may enjoy the leverage game, but the larger failure is that America keeps treating serious foreign policy like a loyalty test, and Europe has spent years talking toughness while relying on somebody else to pay the bill.

This is exactly what abandoning an ally looks like in practice. History rhymes here with the late 1930s, when democracies discovered that appeasement created vacuums, and those vacuums got filled by whoever was willing to show up. Zelensky pivoting to new partners is not a failure of Ukrainian diplomacy, it is a rational response to an American administration that treats security guarantees like leverage in a real estate negotiation.

The Trump aides piece over at The Daily Beast captured the internal panic well enough: even the people around him know this is a self-inflicted wound on American credibility, not just for Ukraine but for every security relationship we have. When you make yourself an unreliable partner, partners find alternatives. That is not complicated.

The question now is whether the EU, the UK, Canada, and others can actually sustain what the US was providing, or whether the gap is too large without American logistics and intelligence. That answer matters enormously for how this war ends.

Europe's been talking a big game for two years. Now they actually have to show up with real money and real weapons. We'll see if they do.
