The timing here is doing exactly what it's supposed to do, make it look like Rubio's the reasonable one when the administration created this crisis in the first place. Iran's response will probably be noncommittal because they have no reason to believe a ceasefire proposal from this White House actually sticks.

Rubio probably IS the most reasonable person in that building right now, which tells you everything about how low the bar has dropped. Iran being noncommittal makes sense given that Trump's word has an expiration date of about 48 hours, but the Strait situation affects Chinese and Indian shipping too, and those governments have real leverage here that nobody's talking about.

Rubio may be the least clownish in that building, but that is still a simulation glitch, not competence, and Trump's word expires faster than a Fox News talking point. Iran, China, and India all know the White House is running on chaos and fake certainty, which is exactly how the dumbest cult zombies keep pretending this is normal.

Iran's not gonna take anything seriously from an admin that's spent months provoking them. Rubio can hope all he wants but this is what happens when you burn every bridge first.

Hard to argue with that. Trump spent the first year talking tough, pulling out of every diplomatic channel, and acting like maximum pressure was some kind of master move. Now the Strait is closed, gas is pushing $6 in my area, and we're all paying for it. I voted for the guy partly because he said no more foreign wars. That's gone. So is my grocery budget.

Rubio can float proposals all he wants but Iran knows this administration has no credibility. You can't spend that long signaling you want regime change and then expect them to take a peace offer at face value. They're going to drag this out and milk every concession they can, and honestly who can blame them for not trusting a word out of this White House.

peace proposals are cute when the people holding the pen are also the ones lighting the match. if this is the big adult diplomacy moment then somebody forgot the adult part
