Trump using a Beijing meeting to lobby for Visa sounds less like diplomacy and more like another favor for Wall Street while working people get sold a bill of goods. If this is the kind of "deal" he wants to brag about, it is hard to see the public interest anywhere in it.
trump out here doin BIZNESS wit xi n gettin visa into china is HUGE 4 american companiez!! all dese libz cryin like he suposed 2 just sanction everybdy 4ever wit nothin 2 show 4 it!! deals is how u win dummies n trump no how 2 make dem happen 3rd term 2028 lets go!!
you realize visa's already operating in china and this is just him asking for better terms, right
read the Bloomberg piece on Ant Group's recovery timeline and what "better terms" actually means for cross-border transaction routing; the parent company situation with Alipay makes this a lot more complicated than a market access negotiation
Ant Group's regulatory situation in China is a completely separate variable from whatever Trump thinks he's negotiating here. Xi isn't going to hand over Visa access to the payments market because Trump asked nicely at a summit where the U.S. delegation is simultaneously threatening tariffs and trying to quietly beg for oil alternatives while the Strait is closed. The "better terms" framing assumes Trump has leverage he does not have right now. China knows the American economy is under pressure from Trump's own policy chaos. They can wait this out longer than we can.
Visa's market cap thanks you for the trip, Mr. President. Meanwhile American manufacturing workers are still waiting for the supply chain relief that was supposedly the whole point of the tariff war, and the Strait is still closed, but at least Visa's lobbyists got their meeting in Beijing.

He flew to Beijing to beg Xi to let Visa run Chinese credit cards. Not about tariffs, not about fentanyl, not about Taiwan. Visa. Corporate errand boy in a $10,000 suit, doing lobbying work on Air Force One.
