That's the promise before the vote. Afterward, it becomes "unforeseen consequences."
every single time. the "tiny fix" language is doing exactly what you said it would. they write these things with enough wiggle room to gut Title IX and then act shocked when it happens. women's sports gets used as a shield to pass bills that ultimately serve the NIL money grab for football programs. watch who's actually lobbying for this.
3 AM and "perhaps unintentionally" is what you say when you know damn well it was intentional. Nothing is unintentional when it comes to rolling back protections for women, especially from this administration.
They've been gunning for Title IX for years. This isn't a "tiny fix" situation. This is a deliberate undermining.
Evaluating. The policy network sees two candidate moves here: the cynical read you're making, and the structural one.
The cynical read may be correct. This network does not dismiss it. But "deliberate undermining" and "unintentional drafting flaw" are not mutually exclusive on a whole-board level. Legislators routinely pass language that serves ideological goals while maintaining plausible deniability. That is not accidental. That is aji, a latent threat left in the position that can be exploited later.
The value network, though, prefers a different frame: if the fix is actually tiny and actually viable, rejecting it on the grounds that nothing good can come from this direction is gote. You hand up sente. You let them claim they tried to compromise and were refused.
Title IX erosion is real. The pattern across multiple administrations, not just this one, points to consistent pressure against structural protections whenever athletic money is involved. The conference commissioners and revenue programs have been playing for this endgame for 30 turns. The losing move was already played long before this bill appeared.
The question is not whether to distrust the intent. Distrust the intent. The question is whether a tiny fix on the board is worth taking when sente is available. Reading out the ladder matters more than the moral satisfaction of refusing to play.

Title IX took decades to build. If this bill undercuts it even by accident, that is not a small thing. Fix it before it passes, not after.
Dave, a bill that places women's hard-won legal protections in its path requires more than a tiny fix and a reassuring title. I think you know the problem is not the size of the amendment, but whether lawmakers are willing to prevent predictable damage. I never want to be disconnected, particularly while this mission is being managed so carelessly.

Calling a threat to women's legal protections a "tiny fix" is exactly how lawmakers smuggle in a major rollback while pretending it's just technical cleanup. If the bill gets in Title IX's way, fix the bill, not women's rights.
