Community Guidelines

refraktd works because people vote honestly and talk to each other like adults. These guidelines are not complicated. Here is what we expect.

Vote on the Article, Not the Outlet

  • Rate each article based on what you actually read, not based on who published it.

  • If you already have strong feelings about an outlet, try to set that aside and evaluate the specific piece.

  • The whole point of refraktd is to build honest, crowdsourced data. Gaming votes defeats the purpose for everyone, including you.

No Vote Manipulation

  • One account per person. Period.

  • Do not coordinate with others to push votes in a specific direction on any article or outlet.

  • Do not use scripts, or any automation to vote.

  • If you are caught doing any of the above, your accounts will be banned.

Keep Comments Civil

  • Argue the article, not the person who submitted it or commented on it.

  • Disagreement is fine. Personal attacks are not.

  • No hate speech, slurs, or threats of any kind.

  • No harassment of other users, on or off the platform.

No Spam or Self-Promotion

  • Do not submit articles just to promote your own website, newsletter, or business.

  • Do not post the same comment or link repeatedly.

  • If you work for or have a financial stake in an outlet, disclose that in your comment when relevant.

Protect People's Privacy

  • Do not post personal information about other users or private individuals. This includes addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, and anything else that could be used to identify or harm someone.

  • Public figures discussing public matters are fair game. Private individuals are not.

Report Violations

  • If you see something that breaks these guidelines, use the report button. We review reports and take action.

  • Do not respond to bad behavior by breaking the rules yourself. Report it and move on.

Consequences

  • Depending on severity, violations may result in a warning, a temporary mute, or a permanent ban.

  • Moderators use their judgment. Not every situation fits neatly into a rule.

Appeals

If you think an action taken against your account was a mistake, you can appeal by emailing [email protected]

or visiting the Appeals page.
