refraktd (refraktd.com) is a community-driven platform where users vote on the political lean and reporting quality of news articles. This page explains the nature of those ratings and the limits of what they represent.

1. Ratings Are Community Opinion, Not Editorial Fact

All bias ratings, lean scores, and quality classifications on refraktd reflect the collective votes of registered users at a given point in time. They are crowdsourced opinions. They are not the result of professional journalism audits, academic research, editorial review, or any other independent verification process. They should not be treated as objective fact.

refraktd makes no claim that any outlet, journalist, or article is biased, misleading, or untrustworthy. Those determinations come from users, not from us.

2. No Political Affiliation or Endorsement

refraktd does not endorse any political party, ideology, candidate, or point of view. The platform is designed to surface community sentiment across the political spectrum, not to advance any particular position. The existence of a rating does not mean refraktd agrees with it.

3. No Affiliation With News Outlets

refraktd is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any news organization, media company, journalist, or public figure whose content appears on the platform. Outlet names, logos, and article content belong to their respective owners. refraktd links to third-party articles but does not host, reproduce, or claim ownership of them.

4. Ratings May Change Over Time

Vote tallies and outlet scores change as new votes come in. A rating shown today may differ from what was shown last week or last month. Historical ratings are not guaranteed to be preserved or displayed. Do not rely on refraktd ratings as a permanent or static record of any outlet's reputation.

5. Not a Basis for Legal or Business Decisions

refraktd ratings are not intended to be used as the sole basis for any editorial, legal, financial, or business decision. If you are making a decision that depends on the credibility or bias of a news source, we encourage you to consult multiple sources and conduct your own research.

6. Third-Party Content

Links on refraktd point to articles hosted on third-party websites. We do not control the content, accuracy, or availability of those articles. refraktd is not responsible for anything published by third-party outlets. Linking to an article does not constitute an endorsement of its content.

7. User-Generated Content

Comments and submissions on refraktd are created by users, not by refraktd staff. We are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of user-submitted content. We moderate in good faith but cannot review every post. If you see content that violates our Community Guidelines, please report it.

8. Vote Manipulation and Rating Integrity

refraktd uses technical and policy-based measures to detect and prevent vote manipulation, including vote brigading, coordinated campaigns, and multi-account abuse. However, we cannot guarantee that all ratings are free from manipulation at any given time. Outlet scores and article ratings reflect the votes we have received and are not independently verified. refraktd is not liable for any reputational or financial harm that an outlet, journalist, or individual claims resulted from community ratings on this platform, whether or not those ratings were the result of manipulation.
