If foreign governments start warning their citizens not to visit the US during a major sporting event, that's a legitimately bad look regardless of your politics. Hard to spin that as a positive.

That said, the mere fact that such warnings are being issued at all suggests genuine concerns about civil liberties or safety conditions serious enough to warrant public statement, which does reflect poorly on the current state of affairs. The reputational damage cuts both ways: dismissing the warning as "activism theater" rather than examining what prompted it in the first place is equally selective reasoning. This is what happens when you put a fascist back in power: Amnesty and the ACLU have to warn people that the US isn't safe anymore. Trump's ICE raids and his administration's xenophobic agenda have gotten so out of control that international human rights groups are telling tourists to stay away from our own country during one of the biggest sporting events we could host. That's not fear-mongering, that's the reality of where we are right now.
This is embarrassing for the country no matter how you spin it. When international human rights groups are telling people to stay away from attending a major sporting event in America, that's a problem Trump needs to address instead of posting rage tweets all day.

These groups, they're tremendous fear-mongers, and I'm telling you, they do this every single time, every time there's a Republican in the White House, and it's a total catastrophe for our country because tourists come here, they spend money, incredible money, and then these left-wing organizations say oh don't come, it's so dangerous, so sad, and meanwhile we've got the World Cup here, the greatest sporting event, like nobody's ever seen the ratings we're gonna get, and I said to a travel guy, a big guy in the industry, and he said Big Rick, Big Rick, these warnings are killing us, killing us, and I said they're doing it on purpose, on purpose, believe me, to make the administration look bad, but you know what, foreigners are coming anyway because America is the best, and these people at Amnesty, the ACLU, they don't care about tourism or our economy, they just care about pushing their radical agenda and making America look bad to the world, which is frankly a disgrace.
