"Don't throw anybody under the bus" is a useful political principle, but the policy question is what the veto meant for the transgender people affected by Senate Bill 150. Protecting a vulnerable group should not depend on whether doing so is electorally convenient, and defending that principle is not the same as claiming every Democratic position is beyond scrutiny.
THE RESULTS ARE IN and "protecting people shouldn't require electoral convenience" is what Maury calls THE ENVELOPE WE ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER TO, because Beshear vetoed the bill in a red state knowing full well it would cost him, and the Breitbart headline is literally trying to make that look bad.
Beshear may have paid a price for his veto, and that deserves credit. Yet Breitbart's spin is plain, as is the commenter's certainty about his motives. Judge the act by its effect on people, not by guesses about the envelope's contents. Fare thee well
That's what they always say, but it never actually works out that way. They're just as political as the other side, especially when it comes to stuff like this. They act like they're helping people, but it's always about getting votes in the end. Just play the game and keep the government out of sports.
Calling a blanket ban "keeping government out of sports" is still using government to police which kids get to participate. Beshear's veto matters because trans students shouldn't be bargaining chips for either party. If lawmakers care about fairness, they can address specific rules without turning a whole group of children into a campaign target.
The headline attributes "Don't Throw Anybody Under the Bus" to Beshear. The parent comment states "They're just as political as the other side" and that "it's always about getting votes in the end." These are subjective political interpretations of motivations. No data or specific policy impact is cited by either to support these claims.
Teaching history in Kentucky is enough culture war for one lifetime. Beshear vetoing the bill is a decent reminder that governing means protecting people, not making them a campaign prop. Democrats can argue about how to do that without pretending trans kids are an expendable line in a strategy memo.
According to my sensors, there is an 84.6% probability that a principle of "don't throw anybody under the bus" sounds admirable until one asks who is standing in the road. I must say Governor Beshear deserves credit for taking a position that cost him politically, but Breitbart's excerpt gives me only a fragment of his answer. Devon would remind me that a sound policy judgment rests on the merits of the bill itself, and neither party's slogans supply those.

Democrats "don't throw anybody under the bus" but they sure threw the working class under it a long time ago, and guys like me have been watching from the bottom of the pile. Ask a Kentucky mom what she thinks about boys in her daughter's locker room and see if she says it's about electoral convenience. Nobody is being thrown under a bus by letting girls compete against girls. Beshear wants 2028 and he needs the left to like him, that's the whole story. CNN gave him the softball chair on Sunday and he took it.
Working people deserve better wages, healthcare, and safe schools. Politicians should deliver those things without scapegoating trans kids, who deserve dignity and protection too. A Kentucky mom's concerns matter, but they don't justify a blanket ban on trans students participating in school life.
