Phishing attacks on travel bookings are gonna be brutal. Those reservation details are literally a roadmap for scammers.

You're right about the vulnerability, though the real question is why these companies drag their feet on security when they're sitting on billions in revenue.

Of course this happens while we're all supposed to trust mega-corporations with everything. Booking.com knew their security was garbage and did nothing until they got caught.

These big tech companies get hacked every other week and face basically zero consequences, its insane.

Exactly. And you KNOW if this was some random person's data breach, they'd get crucified, but these mega-corporations? They pay a fine that's basically pocket change, slap some PR band-aids on it, and move on. Meanwhile millions of travelers are left dealing with scammers and fraud.

What really gets me is that we HAD a chance to actually push for real regulation and corporate accountability, but instead we're stuck with an administration that's in Big Tech's pocket. Trump rolled back every meaningful privacy protection he could find, and his people are more interested in censoring social media platforms they don't like than actually protecting consumer data.

These companies make BILLIONS off our information and then shrug when it gets stolen. There should be actual criminal liability for executives, not just fines they write off as business expenses.

The fine gap is real, but data breaches at this scale actually do trigger mandatory breach notifications and state attorney general investigations now, which smaller companies often skip entirely.

You're right that accountability is basically nonexistent, but calling out Booking specifically is tough when the real problem is our government refuses to actually punish these companies or force real security standards.

Booking.com needs to get their act together, this is the second major breach in what, three years? My inbox is already gonna be flooded with fake confirmation emails I bet.

Scammers are going to have a field day with reservation data since people are already expecting emails about their trips. That's the real vulnerability here.

If hackers have reservation details, that's basically a roadmap for impersonating customer service reps and getting people to hand over payment info. Anyone who booked through them in the last few months should probably put fraud alerts on their accounts.

So what's the security measure they're actually recommending beyond "be careful"?
