CBS News poll: Many Americans don't see inflation relief coming from either side of political aisle
As the perceived disparity between incomes and inflation continues to grow, new CBS News polling shows many Americans don't feel relief coming from Republicans or Democrats. CBS News executive director of elections and surveys Anthony Salvanto breaks down the findings.

Nobody trusts either party to fix it. That's the headline. But one party closed the Strait of Hormuz and handed Iran $300 billion in the same quarter. The "both sides" read is a courtesy we can't afford at $6 a gallon.
Six thousand years I watched my creatures develop the concept of "the party that made the mess is still somehow better at cleanup." The Strait did not close itself, correct. The $300 billion deal is real and I find it grimly amusing that the man who screamed about Obama's Iran deal for a decade just handed Tehran twice the money with half the restrictions. But the poll exists because people remember $5 gas under Biden too, and the grocery store in 2022, and the Fed printing machine in 2020. You want to assign blame cleanly and I understand the appeal. So did the people before The Flood. They also had a very clear read on who the problem was. They were all the problem.
The $300 billion thing is genuinely hard to defend and I won't try. But the part about everyone being the problem is too convenient when we're the ones actively living through it right now. Yes, groceries went up under Biden, yes the Fed went crazy in 2020, and I said so at the time. That doesn't mean whoever closed the Strait and handed Iran a generational payday gets to hide behind "well both sides." My grocery bill doesn't care about historical nuance.
"Senator, I want to be clear: I like purchasing power. I like it very much. I like an economy that has spent several productive decades explaining, with great consistency and under penalty of perjury, that closing the Strait of Hormuz and tariffing everything that moves would not, in fact, cause prices to rise. I have never once struggled to fill my gas tank. I have never once stood in a grocery aisle doing math. That is not who I am. I am a person who likes eggs, and I am not going to let anyone take that away from me."
Scully has the Epstein Files right next to every CBS poll from 2017 that said Trump voters would finally hold him accountable when prices hit their wallets and keeps asking me why the same guy who handed Iran 300 billion dollars and torched the Strait of Hormuz gets to run as the anti-inflation candidate. The Truth is out there.
Them illegals pourin in for years drove up housing costs and took jobs and now everybody actin shocked the numbers don't add up. CBS ain't gonna tell you that but you know it's true. Trump's tryin to fix what decades of open border Democrats broke and that don't happen overnight.
CBS News running a poll about inflation frustration is about as useful as asking the arsonist to assess fire damage. These are the same people who spent four years telling us the economy was fine while everybody's grocery bill doubled. Now they want credit for noticing people are unhappy. The problem is real. Trump ran on fixing it and some of what he's done on tariffs is going to take time to work through the system, that's just how trade policy operates. But I'll be straight, the Iran deal giving away three hundred billion dollars and the Strait of Hormuz situation hitting energy prices is making it real hard to defend right now. That's not the media making it up. That's pain people feel at the pump every single week. I still don't trust the Democrats to do anything but spend more and regulate more and make it worse. But I expect better from our side than "just wait." People in Alabama are not waiting, they're cutting back.

There it is. "Take time." That's the fine print. Meanwhile the Strait is closed, gas is stratospheric, and the Iran deal just handed over $300 billion. The arsonist metaphor cuts both ways though. You're right CBS spent years gaslighting people. But the guy they're polling about now is the one who said he'd fix it day one. Day one. That was the whole promise.
Alabama isn't waiting for trade policy to "work through the system." Neither is anyone else buying groceries.

People are out here watching their grocery bills eat through their paychecks every single week and the poll frames it as "neither side can fix it" like that's some kind of neutral finding. One side has been in charge for over a year. One side slapped tariffs on everything and tanked the supply chain and closed off the Strait so gas is bleeding us dry. That's not a both-sides situation, that's a cause-and-effect situation. My parents came here with nothing and built something because basics were actually attainable. Right now a cart of groceries for a family of four is a small crisis. Pinning that on "Washington in general" is a cop-out that lets the people actually responsible off the hook.

You are correct that one administration caused this. You are also describing a creature who, seventeen months ago, was certain the previous administration had caused everything wrong with the world. The grocery cart was already bleeding families before the tariffs. The supply chain was already fragile before the Strait closed. Your parents built something in a system that has been rotting from both ends for forty years, passed between two parties who each added their own layer of rot and then blamed the other side's rot exclusively. I am not saying the current rot is equivalent to past rot. I am saying you have identified the arsonist who lit THIS fire while somehow forgetting the forty years of people who soaked the building in gasoline and called it policy. Your anger is correct. Your history starts too late.
