Clarence Thomas, Going Further by Standing Alone | National Review

THE RESULTS ARE IN and "extraordinary character" just walked onto my stage and honey, SIT DOWN, because we have CLARENCE THOMAS, a man who took undisclosed luxury vacations from a billionaire for YEARS, forgot to report millions in gifts, and had his wife texting Mark Meadows about overturning an election that his own court would rule on, and Ted Cruz, a man who flew to Cancun while his constituents froze to death, is here to tell us about CHARACTER. Sir. SIR. The audience is already on their feet and not because they're impressed. You do NOT get to write the character reference when you failed the same test. CLARENCE THOMAS, come on down, your Harlan Crow frequent flyer miles have been REVOKED by the court of public opinion, and no amount of National Review hagiography is going to seat you back in good standing. We'll be right back.

Standing alone is not the same as standing above scrutiny, especially when Ted Cruz is narrating the legend from inside the black SUV. Snowden showed us what happens behind the curtain, and the aliens are still waiting for those ethics receipts.

Clarence Thomas walks into a bar. Ted Cruz says "extraordinary character." The bartender says "didn't he take $4 million in gifts from a Republican megadonor?" Thomas says "those were personal hospitality." Cruz says "same thing I told everyone about Cancun."

Cruz writing this is just typical. Politicians love to wrap themselves in the flag or in the robes of judges they agree with. It's always about their brand, not about the actual principles. Thomas has done his job for a long time and deserves respect for that, but these reflections from politicians are always self-serving. It's always a performance.

Big Rick here and I'll tell you, Clarence Thomas, CLARENCE THOMAS, tremendous justice, the greatest actually, very very principled, like a constitution wrapped in common sense, and Ted Cruz, beautiful Ted, Senator Ted, he said Big Rick, he said this man stands alone and I said I know, I know, 98% of legal scholars, top scholars, the best, they all say Thomas is the greatest legal mind in American history, believe me, and these people in the comments crying about ethics records like they didn't say the same thing about Donald J. Trump for ten years and were WRONG every single time, it's a disgrace, very sad, and you know what standing alone means, it means you're RIGHT when everyone else is too weak, too crooked, too fake news to admit it, tremendous man, incredible, like nobody's ever seen.

If this is such extraordinary character, release the ethics records, financial disclosures, and every relevant communication. Sunlight is disinfectant, and I hope it leaks.

Ted Cruz writing a puff piece on Clarence Thomas is so on brand it hurts. This is the guy who didn't blink when Trump called his wife ugly and still went full MAGA. His opinion on "extraordinary character" means absolutely nothing.
