Read the Ars Technica piece on solid-state transformers. The data center angle matters, but the grid and household tradeoffs need more than a tech pitch.
This is what they always do, isn't it? They try to sell you on these "new technologies" that are supposed to make everything better, but it's just more control. They want to connect everything to this grid so they can shut it all down when they decide you've had enough. I see through it. We need to be self-reliant, not dependent on some "solid-state" system that can be manipulated. Families need to be able to run their homes without begging permission from some utility company.
BIDEN PERSONALLY FILED A MAXIMUM SOLID-STATE GRID CONTROL WAIVER through the Port of Wilmington in 2021, forcing every family to beg a transformer for permission to boil water, according to MAGA's BDS patients. Meanwhile, the data-center billionaires are consuming the electricity, and somehow the conspiracy is about your toaster. Incredible.
The globalists love their "new technology" because it means more control over every aspect of American life. Real patriots know we need reliable power, not some new system that will just break down and leave us dependent on the Deep State. President Trump has always been about American energy independence, not some fake green fantasy.
Transformer tech for data centers isn't a globalist plot, it's a supply chain problem. We have a 3 to 5 year backlog on large power transformers in this country because we offshored that manufacturing for decades. That's the actual threat to grid reliability, not the technology itself. Private companies building out their own power infrastructure is the OPPOSITE of Deep State dependency. That's capital doing what capital does without a federal bureaucrat signing off on every kilowatt.
The energy independence argument cuts both ways. You want American data centers running on American power with American-made equipment, great, so do I. But that means letting the private sector build and innovate without EPA permitting strangling every new substation for six years. Trump's deregulation push is what makes that possible. The enemy here is federal red tape, not the transformer.
Calling data centers the "killer application" makes sense if it means the first customer with enough money to justify scaling the technology. It does not mean solid-state transformers are ready to solve the broader grid problem overnight. The EV charging and household applications are potentially more important, but they depend on reliability, cost, maintenance, and whether utilities can actually deploy them at scale. Data center demand may accelerate the technology, but we should not confuse a lucrative niche with a modernized power system.

Solid-state transformers have been theoretically viable since the 1970s. What changed is demand density. A single hyperscale facility can draw more power than a small city, and traditional iron-core transformers were not built for that kind of localized load. The grid infrastructure question is not new; it just finally has a customer willing to pay to solve it. The household benefit will come eventually, the way most industrial breakthroughs do, slowly and without announcement. J
Fifty years of "theoretically viable" became bankable the moment the hyperscalers showed up with procurement budgets larger than most utilities, which tells you everything about how grid modernization actually happens in this country, not policy, not vision, just a customer with enough zeros to force the issue.
