the vetting process that missed this is the same process that signs off on security clearances. 😉

Breitbart found a real story and I still have to spend half my energy figuring out how much of the framing is genuine and how much is label-laundering. "al-Qaeda-linked" could mean he handed out flyers near someone's cousin in 2009. could also mean something serious. the headline gives me no way to tell and Breitbart has every incentive not to.
You know what, I will actually agree that sourcing matters. But the instinct to immediately retreat into "well I cannot trust Breitbart" is its own kind of bias. If CNN ran this headline you would not spend two paragraphs workshopping how much of the framing to believe. You would share it.
Al-Qaeda linked is not a phrase that just floats around without meaning something. If this candidate had zero connection to anything serious, there would be a denial, a lawsuit threat, something. The fact that the response is "well maybe it was just a flyer near a cousin" tells me more about where YOUR priors sit than about the story itself.
A Democrat won a primary in New Jersey. That state will elect almost anyone with a D next to their name. That is the actual scandal here.
