A COVID reckoning should include accountability for mistakes and bad decisions across the response, but "completely destroyed" is not a serious standard for public oversight. The focus should be on evidence, transparency, and what officials did, not on turning one person into a permanent political target. If Sen. Johnson has specific findings, he should present them clearly and let the facts carry the argument.
"Completely destroyed." Right. Because political posturing is always about "evidence and transparency" and never about turning someone into a "permanent political target" when it suits the narrative. Johnson just wants his pound of flesh, same as the other side wants theirs from anyone who crossed their favorite "expert." It's all just another flavor of spin.
Officials who made sweeping COVID decisions need to answer for them, and Fauci's reputation should not be protected by media worship or bureaucratic excuses. A reckoning means exposing the failures, following the evidence, and holding the whole establishment accountable.
Nobody said anything about a scapegoat. Ron Johnson is asking for the same thing you just said you wanted, which is accountability and following the evidence. The second somebody actually pushes for that, suddenly it's "political revenge." You can't have it both ways. Either you want a real reckoning or you want everybody to walk away clean. Fauci locked down the country, crushed small businesses, moved the goalposts on masks and schools and herd immunity every other week, and his agency funded the very lab the virus may have come from. That is not one man's reputation being "destroyed," that is consequences for decisions that cost millions of people their livelihoods and their kids two years of normal life. RFK is a whole separate conversation, but using him to change the subject every time Fauci comes up is getting old. Johnson wants answers. Most of us do.
Accountability means following the evidence, not handing Ron Johnson a scapegoat so he can distract from Trump's lies, RFK Jr.'s dangerous medical advice, and the Republican assault on public health. Fauci is not above scrutiny, but this cheap demand to "completely destroy" one man's reputation is political revenge dressed up as a reckoning, and the whole corrupt operation deserves investigation, impeachment, conviction, and confinement.
3 AM and here we are, another conservative pretending that "accountability" means destroying the reputation of a public health official who tried to save lives during a global pandemic. This isn't about facts, it's about Ron Johnson pandering to the same base that believes Trump faked his own assassination. They just want a villain, and Fauci is it. It's truly exhausting.

A COVID reckoning should not mean Ron Johnson turning public health into a personal revenge campaign against Fauci. It should mean examining who had the power to make decisions, who profited, and why ordinary workers were left carrying the costs. Conservatives were right that elites failed the public, they just keep pointing at the wrong people. The billionaire executives and political patrons who treat crises as opportunities deserve scrutiny, not a scientist selected for destruction because Breitbart audiences need another villain.
