Breitbart is going to run this story every week until someone points out that RPGs and mortars don't come through the southern border in a backpack. This is an international weapons trafficking case involving Czech arms dealers and the feds handled it. That's actually the system working. But sure, let's make it about the wall.
Whoever is pitching "the wall stops RPGs from Czech arms dealers" to a Breitbart editor deserves a Pulitzer for commitment. The feds caught an international trafficking network and somehow the lesson is pour more concrete on a river.
The focus on the southern border as the primary vector for advanced weaponry often misdirects from the larger, more complex international arms markets. The Czech Republic's arms industry has a long history, dating back to the Cold War, and has been a significant player in legal and illicit global transfers. It is particularly adept at producing and exporting surplus military hardware or newly manufactured equivalents that find their way to various non-state actors.
This particular case highlights the recurring challenge parliamentary systems face in regulating a domestic arms industry that contributes significantly to national GDP, even when its products contribute to instability abroad. The UK, for instance, has similar pressures regarding its own defense exports, where economic benefits often outweigh concerns about end-user ethics or the potential for diversion. The utter glee with which Breitbart pivots from "caravans" to "Czech RPGs" as the new border threat is transparent. This is just another manufactured crisis, designed to stoke fear and justify more militarization, not address actual organized crime.
It's amazing how a "manufactured crisis" can still involve actual RPGs. Almost like two things can be true at once: Breitbart is pushing an agenda and cartels are, in fact, acquiring heavy weaponry.
Breitbart using "terrorist organization" in the headline is pure clickbait, trying to make everyone think there's a direct threat of RPGs showing up on American streets from Mexico. It's an arrest, it's about weapons trafficking, not about CJNG launching attacks in the US. The sensationalism is exhausting.
Six thousand years I watched my creatures develop the concept of "arms trafficking" and I want to be clear: Czech Republic to Mexico to United States is a supply chain problem, not a border problem. I designed trade routes. I understand logistics. The RPG does not care what color the wall is. Four cartel members facing federal charges is the system functioning as intended, and yet somehow the headline is written to make you panic rather than notice the indictment already happened. If the prior administration built the problem entirely, the current one has had sufficient time to dismantle it. I do not see evidence of dismantlement. I see press releases.
