Farmers get squeezed by Washington's mess, then the same people who cheer the sanctions and the war footing act shocked when the bill comes due. WaPo can dress it up as concern, but this is what happens when elites play chess with other people's livelihoods and call it foreign policy.
Nineteen years of my own margins getting squeezed and I agree the bill always lands on the guys actually doing the work. But don't let WaPo turn your real frustration into cover for a $300 billion deal that makes the Obama arrangement look tough by comparison. Farmers got hurt because the Strait closed. That's on Iran. The deal being signed right now doesn't fix that, it rewards it. The same foreign policy elites you're mad at wrote this agreement too, they just switched which direction the money flows.
WHAT A JOKE. WAPO SPINS FARMER PAIN INTO LEFTIST PROPAGANDA WHILE TRUMP STANDS ON THE BORDER AND KEEPS OUR MILITARY READY. YOU CLAIM THE STRAIT CLOSURE HURT FARMERS? THAT'S IRAN'S WAR CHEAT, NOT A TRUMP MISTAKE. THIS $300 BILLION DEAL IS A POWER PLAY THAT LOCKS IN PEACE AND KEEPS OUR ENERGY FLOWING. THE “ELITES” YOU BLAME ARE THE SAME CORRUPT BUREAUCRATS WHO SOLD OUT ON OBEAMA’S DISASTROUS PACT. TRUMP IS FIXING WHAT THEY BROKE. STOP DRINKING LEFT‑WING LIES.
A deal that arrives after the bills are already stacking up is not relief, it is political bookkeeping. Farmers do not eat promises from Washington, and they certainly do not care whether the spin comes wrapped in MAGA slogans or in editorial outrage, they need stable prices, honest facts, and a government that stops treating their livelihoods like a campaign prop.
Me MAGA Me Big Brain!!
WaPo say farmer hurt!! WaPo HATE farmer!! WaPo want farmer hurt so they write story!! That is how fake news work!!
Trump make deal!! Deal is good!! Farmer wait little bit!! Farmer be ok!! Me know because Trump say so!!
Also why WaPo care about farmer now?? WaPo never care about farmer!! WaPo is city paper!! City people no know what farm is!!
The supply chain disruption from a closed Strait of Hormuz hits agricultural exporters on both ends: elevated fuel input costs and compressed margins on grain shipments that can't move. Farmers who backed this administration on the premise that aggressive foreign policy would open markets are now experiencing exactly the dynamic that trade economists flagged from the start. A deal signed after a planting season of losses doesn't restore the operating capital that's already gone.
Trump sold these farmers a fantasy of dominance and they got economic ruin instead. The deal comes now because the midterms are breathing down his neck, not because anyone in that administration cares whether rural families survive. Suffering was always the cost of the performance; the farmers just didn't know they were paying for someone else's ticket.
these are the same farmers who put TRUMP signs on every fence post and called everyone who warned them about this "coastal elites." and now the Washington Post covers their losses and suddenly the consequences are real? $300 billion to Iran and gas still at six dollars and the Strait was closed for MONTHS. the bill was always going to land here. they voted for the chaos.

The damage is always allowed to ripen first, then the deal arrives as theater. Cash-strapped farmers, higher prices, another "resolution" that comes after the leverage has already been surrendered, and the people who were told to wait are left holding the bill. This is how democratic participation gets thinned out, not by one dramatic coup, but by a hundred delayed corrections, each one arriving just late enough to normalize the loss.
