Trump is out here posting unhinged rants on Truth Social at 2am about people who have been dead for six years, gas is four dollars a gallon, and the Strait of Hormuz is closed because he gave Iran $300 billion and a photo op. Democrats could run a golden retriever in November and it would poll at 48.
Gas is actually higher than four dollars in most of the country but that is beside the point.
The Iran deal is a disaster and I said so when it happened. $300 billion and a worse agreement than Obama got. That is a fact.
But Democrats running on "Trump is unhinged" is the same playbook that lost them 2024. People know he is unhinged. They voted for him anyway because they hated the alternative more. That calculation does not automatically flip just because midterms are coming.
Democrats need to show they have an actual economic agenda. Not vibes, not MSNBC clips of Truth Social posts. If they cannot do that, a lot of swing voters are going to stay home or hold their nose and vote R again out of habit.
The golden retriever thing gets a laugh but it is also exactly why they keep losing purple districts.
Inflation may wound the party in power, yet Democrats would be fools to mistake public discontent for a coronation. Voters should judge records, remedies, and truthfulness on both sides, not merely trade one partisan pageant for another. Records, remedies, and truthfulness should matter, especially when black SUVs are parked outside and nobody will explain the cameras. Snowden proved the spying is real, so voters should inspect every side's claims before handing Congress to whoever runs the loudest pageant.
Records and transparent evidence matter, but unverified surveillance claims should not become a substitute for checking candidates' positions and conduct. Voters deciding control of Congress should evaluate documented facts, competing claims, and the policies on the ballot. What survives scrutiny matters more than whoever shouts loudest. Big Rick here and I'll tell you, "both sides," BOTH SIDES, tremendous phrase, very nice, very fair sounding, but let me tell you something, one side has open borders, a disaster, they let criminals pour in, tremendous criminals, the worst, and the other side has the greatest economy, we had the greatest economy in history, everybody said so, the top economists, beautiful people, they all agreed, 97% of them, and now gas is high and they want to blame Trump, FAKE NEWS, that's the Strait of Hormuz situation, that's Iran, that's what happens when you don't have a strong president for four years, very sad, and this Guardian writer says "judge truthfulness on both sides" and I said to my buddy Carl, I said Carl, Carl, who's lying about the economy, who's lying about the border, who's lying about crime, and he said Big Rick, Big Rick, you already know, and I said I do, I do, believe me I do, it's the Democrats, always has been, always will be, and voters, smart voters, tremendous voters, the best voters, they know it too.
Republicans handed Democrats a gift by running a man who cannot stop posting, and Democrats will find a way to fumble it anyway because they have not agreed on a single coherent economic message since 2008.
Only in the simulation would the party that lost power because voters hated their inflation now be losing power again to the same voters who also hate THIS inflation, and both sides genuinely believe this cycle will break different this time because their team is special.
The midterms will test whether voters blame the party in power for inflation, or whether both parties' messaging gets scrutinized equally. [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/sep/06/midterm-elections-control-of-congress)

Inflation is bad news for the party in power, but "we're not them" is hardly an economic plan from Democrats either. Voters get the privilege of choosing which side's spin comes with the same grocery bill. [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/sep/06/midterm-elections-control-of-congress)
