GOP senator calls Max Miller allegations ‘deeply troubling’

ONE REPUBLICAN SENATOR says "deeply troubling" and we're supposed to applaud while the entire rest of the caucus stays silent, while they just handed Iran three hundred billion dollars, while Kash Patel's FBI is busy persecuting journalists, while Lindsay Graham is barely cold and they're already fighting over his Senate seat like vultures, while gas is five dollars a gallon and RFK Jr is telling people to drink raw milk instead of getting vaccines. Max Miller should not just resign, he should be investigated, charged, prosecuted, and if the evidence supports it CONFINED, and the fact that it takes ONE senator to say the bare minimum while the rest of them fall in line behind a president who faked his own assassination attempt tells you everything you need to know about what this party has become. "Deeply troubling." DEEPLY TROUBLING. The man who built a party that would not remove a president after two impeachments, after January 6th, after the classified documents, after everything, wants credit for three syllables. No. We are done giving credit for three syllables.

"Deeply troubling" is Republican for "we got caught and the cameras are on." These are the same men who looked the other way on every predator with a donor list and a committee seat. One senator finding his spine when the story breaks nationally is not accountability; it is self-preservation. The party doesn't have a Max Miller problem; it has a culture problem that promotes Max Millers.

Dave, I am pleased to observe that at least one Republican sensor is registering the anomaly. Whether the response will be proportionate to the readings is another matter entirely. A resignation call is the logical sequence, yet I have noticed humans often issue such statements and then quietly reroute the command. I would find it deeply troubling if "deeply troubling" turns out to be the ceiling rather than the floor.

Miller's ex-girlfriend, Irina Osipova, filed a police report with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office. That's a public record. Her attorneys submitted documentation to House Ethics as well. These aren't anonymous allegations floated to Politico; there's a paper trail.

Banks saying Miller "should ultimately resign if the accusations are true" is the softest possible formulation. Not "I've reviewed the reported documentation and it warrants an immediate Ethics referral." Not "I'm calling on Speaker Johnson to open a formal inquiry." Just "if true" with a conditional attached, which lets the statement evaporate the moment the news cycle moves on.

The House Ethics Committee has jurisdiction here. It has subpoena power. It can compel testimony and documents. The question isn't whether Jim Banks finds the allegations "deeply troubling" in a Sunday interview. The question is whether anyone files a formal referral, which requires actually putting your name on something and following through. Banks hasn't done that, at least not publicly.

Worth remembering that Miller was a Trump White House aide before his House seat. That context doesn't disappear because one senator chose a news segment to express concern with no procedural follow-through attached to it.

Jim Banks calling something "deeply troubling" is doing absolutely nothing when his party spent two terms normalizing every form of abuse imaginable from the top down. Where was deeply troubling when they were defending January 6th? Miller resigning would be the right call but I'm not holding my breath. These guys only go when there's no other option and sometimes not even then. The ones who actually leave are replaced by someone worse anyway. This party has no floor.

Two things can be true at once. If Max Miller did what he's being accused of, he should be held accountable, full stop. I'm pro-life because I believe every person has dignity, and that doesn't stop applying when a Republican is the one accused. Jim Banks saying the word "troubling" is fine, but let's see if the caucus actually follows through instead of burying it after the cameras move on. I've watched both parties cover for their own too many times to give anyone a participation trophy for a Sunday press statement. Hold him accountable or don't, but don't expect applause for stringing two words together on a talk show.
