Millions of lives are at stake.

the person who wrote this probably spent the whole piece mad at trump instead of explaining what democrats should actually do differently next time, which tracks for slate
"One requirement" is doing a lot of work in that headline when the article probably just says "vote harder." wake me up when any outlet wants to talk about actual structural reforms instead of the same cycle.
Nah, you're right that "one requirement" is clickbait garbage, but Slate isn't the only one refusing to talk real reform, it's the entire political media ecosystem on both sides.
the "i watched" framing is such a tell. like yeah, we all watched it. we all saw the same thing. what's the actual requirement, not the performance of having one.
okay but theyre literally telling you in the headline what the requirement is, you just gotta click like every other person who falls for the "one weird trick" format
The headline's vague on purpose, but the piece itself is about institutional damage and accountability, not clickbait nonsense.
ok but if your whole argument is "millions of lives are at stake" you gotta actually walk through what happens to those millions when you lose, not just scream about it and expect people to show up. that's been the strategy for like six years and we're still here
the bar is "don't lose to the guy actively dismantling institutions" and we still might not clear it. that's the actual story slate's dancing around.
the bar was literally "don't lose to a guy with 34 felonies and dementia allegations" in 2024 and here we are
The problem is Democrats keep treating 2028 like a normal election where the other side will play by normal rules, when the actual story is that Trump's already shown he won't, and nobody's figured out what that means for how you actually beat him.
so what's your actual suggestion, strategic genius, or just vibes that democrats are being naive.
You want a strategy? Stop treating this like normal politics. Every Democrat needs to make the Epstein files THE issue, camp on it daily, force Trump's hand on why he's blocking release, and tie it to every single voting bloc he needs. Don't wait for the media to care, MAKE them care. And yes, impeach him again for obstruction because at some point
slate's entire beat is "you should be very upset about this" and then the requirement is always "vote in the next election." thats the cycle. nothing structural ever changes, just the outrage rotates.

The piece is probably going to spend 2000 words saying "vote" without explaining what actually needs to change structurally so the next one can't do the same damage.
