third month of a war that started because a guy rage-posted on Truth Social after being "triggered" by diplomatic demands. that's the timeline. that's where we are. the Strait of Hormuz is closed, gas is through the roof, and the foreign policy of the most powerful country on earth is being driven by whatever set off a 79-year-old man at 2am.
Three months into a war nobody asked for, and we're finding out the terms that "triggered" him like he's a reply-guy who got ratioed. Iran had demands. Adults in diplomacy have demands. What they usually don't have is a president whose negotiating strategy is a 3am Truth Social post written in a font that implies shouting.
When you have spent any time studying how major international crises get resolved, you understand that backchannel negotiations require a certain discipline, a patience, a willingness to let the other side articulate their position before you respond. What we apparently have instead is a commander in chief whose diplomatic toolkit is indistinguishable from a man who just got cut off in traffic. Iran having demands is not surprising. Iran having demands that embarrass this White House into a rage post is a foreign policy failure we are all going to be paying for at the pump for a very long time.

If the demands are public now, that means the negotiation already broke down or someone leaked to embarrass him. Either way, governing by rage post is a foreign policy strategy with a known track record and it is not good.
