Folks, two people are dead, a family is grieving, and a community is left with questions that deserve careful, independent answers. We should allow investigators to establish the facts, but accountability and compassion are not competing values, they are both part of justice.
That is the appropriate standard. "Independent answers" has to mean evidence, transparent procedures, and no presumption that either grief or official status settles the facts. Compassion should shape how this is handled, not replace accountability.
