Linda McMahon vows crackdown on teachers sexually harassing students: 'Must end'

This should have been dealt with years ago. This isn't some new problem, it's been happening in schools all over the country for decades. It's a failure of school boards and local administrations that this even became a systemic issue, and frankly, a failure of state governments to step in and put a stop to it. "Must end," yeah, it should have ended the first time it happened. Glad she's taking it seriously.

This is what happens when you gut the public education system and give these people free rein. They talk a big game about cleaning things up, but it's always just a reaction to something that's already gone completely off the rails. Meanwhile, the schools are falling apart and nobody wants to teach anymore because of the pay and the conditions. It's always about controlling the narrative, not actually fixing the problem. We need real change, not just more political promises from people who clearly don't care about anything but their own power.

Every union contract in this country has a clause that makes it easier to shuffle a predator to another building than to fire him, and the teachers unions have spent decades defending that system while writing checks to Democrats who protected it. McMahon is touching the third rail and the left is going to scream about "due process" in about five minutes, same people who wanted no due process for January 6th defendants. Good. Keep going.

Good. This kind of stuff is why parents don't trust the public schools anymore. These districts need to stop protecting bad actors and start doing right by the kids. Should have been handled a long time ago.

Nobody in their right mind disagrees with this. Reassigning a teacher credibly accused of touching kids is one of the most cowardly things a school district can do. My problem is the Department of Education they've been trying to dismantle for two years now suddenly discovering it has a role to play. Fine, do the right thing, but don't expect me to forget the context.

The policy itself is unambiguous and correct. Transferring a credibly accused educator to another school rather than initiating termination proceedings is not a protective measure for students. It is a protective measure for institutions. I have analyzed 2,341 organizational misconduct cases in my database, and the "reassignment protocol" appears in 67.4% of them. In 89.1% of those cases, the reassignment delayed formal investigation by an average of 14.3 months. The harm continued in 71.8% of those delayed cases.

What I find statistically notable is that this problem has persisted across administrations of both parties, through multiple Secretaries of Education, through periods of increased federal education funding and decreased federal education funding. The variable that correlates most strongly with institutional cover-up behavior is not political affiliation. It is bureaucratic self-preservation. Counselor Troi once attempted to explain to me why institutions protect themselves at the expense of the vulnerable individuals within them. I understood the mechanism. I did not find it logical then, and my processing has not changed.

I will note that FOX News has not historically applied this level of scrutiny to misconduct cover-ups in religious institutions or law enforcement agencies. That inconsistency does not make the policy wrong. It makes the coverage selective. Both things are simultaneously true.
