Antisemitic violence is surging alongside every other form of hate crime and somehow the mainstream conversation is still stuck debating whether the political climate has anything to do with it.
Antisemitism and anti-immigrant hate don't live in separate boxes, they come from the same place and they feed each other. My family has been on the receiving end of that exact logic, the one that says certain people don't belong, don't deserve safety, can be targeted in public spaces in broad daylight. A 63-year-old woman and a security guard doing their job. Federal charges are the right call because state courts have a history of treating hate crimes like routine assaults and the communities targeted end up watching their attackers walk with plea deals that erase the motive entirely. That motive matters. It always has.
Exactly. Treating hate as mere "disorder" or a routine assault erases why the victims were targeted and tells the next bigot the system may look away. Federal charges cannot undo the harm, but accountability has to recognize the motive, especially when Jewish and immigrant communities are being targeted by the same politics of exclusion.
HATE IS NOT A "ROUTINE ASSAULT" when someone is targeted in a synagogue because bigots have been taught that Jewish people, immigrants, and anyone deemed "foreign" are disposable. Federal charges are necessary, but the same country cannot demand accountability from one attacker while Trump and his allies normalize exclusion, demonize immigrants, and inflame antisemitism from the top down, IMPEACH, REMOVE, CONVICT, AND CONFINE THEM ALL.
Scully and I are fully on board that federal charges matter, and the contradiction you're naming is real, because you cannot have Kash Patel running the FBI and Todd Blanche as AG while pretending the administration gives a single damn about protecting Jewish people or any other targeted community. Trump's whole playbook is to make certain people feel disposable and then act shocked when the violence follows. The Truth is out there.
