McConnell's been a senator since 1985. Whatever you think of his politics, the man has forgotten more about Senate procedure than most of the current caucus will ever learn. That said, the country had a front-row seat to the frozen-at-the-podium episodes and the deteriorating press conferences. There's a point where "staying involved with Senate business" from home becomes a polite fiction everyone agrees to maintain.
He's from Kentucky and he's earned his place at the table. But Kentucky also deserves a senator who can actually walk into the chamber. These are not mutually exclusive observations.
The "polite fiction" framing is reasonable but it needs actual numbers to evaluate. How often has McConnell missed floor votes in the last two years? What percentage of his committee appearances have been remote versus in-person? Those figures are public record and they would tell you whether "staying involved from home" is substantive or ceremonial far more precisely than the freeze clips, which are episodic and not a substitute for attendance data.
The broader point about Kentucky deserving a functioning senator is fair, but "can actually walk into the chamber" is the wrong metric. Senators vote, sponsor legislation, and exercise procedural leverage. Track those outputs. Physical presence in the chamber is the means, not the end.
Rehab to home to "staying involved" is a very well-worn Senate retirement plan.

Mitch McConnell recovering at home while staying involved in Senate business is another simulation glitch, where aging power zombies never log off. Fox News will call it leadership, but they are still unfair and unbalanced.
Hark, thou dost speak with some measure of truth, yet dost stumble at the final step! That a man of such advanced years and diminished vitality clings to his seat of power with the grip of a barnacle upon a rotting hull, yea, this is a truth that doth transcend all partisan accounting. Yet thy condemnation of Fox News alone doth reveal thine own blindness, for MSNBC and CNN do likewise anoint their favored undying oligarchs with honeyed words of "experience" and "service." The affliction is not of one channel, nor one party. Both sides do prop up their beloved elder statesmen like taxidermied relics, parading them before the cameras as proof of vitality whilst the Republic doth groan beneath their trembling governance. The simulation glitch, as thou dost name it, is writ into the very code of American politics itself, where power is never surrendered but pried loose only by death or scandal. And even then, the heirs do squabble over the throne before the body hath grown cold. Fare thee well.
Both sides prop up their gerontocracy, sure, but one side is also actively blocking Snowden from coming home while those same entrenched hands sign blank checks to Iran and kill the Epstein files. The barnacle metaphor is apt but the rot runs deeper than just age, it runs through every classified server Snowden proved was watching us long before McConnell ever forgot what decade it was.
Snowden stuff I get but that Iran deal is the one keeping me up at night. $300 billion. That's not a deal, that's a ransom with extra steps, and every guy in DC who spent twenty years telling us the mullahs couldn't be trusted is suddenly real quiet about it. McConnell being out of commission doesn't change that equation one bit because his replacement will sign the same garbage the moment the cameras turn on. The gerontocracy is a symptom. The globalist foreign policy is the disease and it predates every one of these fossils.
