Good news on the science, genuinely. But somebody explain to me how we are supposed to trust Moderna after the COVID shot rollout and RFK sitting at HHS acting like every injection is a bioweapon. The administration has one hand funding this kind of research and the other hand letting Kennedy run around poisoning the well on anything with mRNA in the name. That is a real problem for getting people on board with a treatment that might actually save lives.
RFK Jr is literally running HHS while one of the most important vaccine breakthroughs in a decade drops, and that is not a coincidence in terms of timing, that is a crisis in terms of access and public trust.
Phase 3 melanoma data lands and the HHS secretary is somewhere warning about microchips in the mRNA.
I want the full Phase 3 data, adverse-event reports, trial protocol, and independent review. If this vaccine really stopped melanoma from returning and spreading, publish everything and let the evidence speak.
"Succeeded" needs numbers. How much did it reduce recurrence and spread, over what follow-up, compared with what, and with which adverse events? "Reportedly" is not a result. Ars should link the Phase 3 data, not just repeat company claims.
Melanoma recurrence and spread are exactly the outcomes that kill people, so this is potentially huge. The word "reportedly" is why nobody should declare victory yet, but a successful Phase 3 result means we may be looking at a real treatment advance, not a mouse study dressed up as a miracle. Now publish the full data, follow patients long enough, and make sure access is not limited to people who can pay.

This is genuinely remarkable science and the timing could not be more complicated. Personalized mRNA cancer vaccines were the kind of moonshot that required sustained NIH funding, FDA competence, and a regulatory environment that takes clinical evidence seriously. All three of those pillars are now under active assault. RFK Jr. is running HHS with the scientific literacy of a wellness blogger, and Trump is reportedly about to put Heidi Overton at the FDA, a person whose entire career has been dedicated to regulatory skepticism. The same administration that will want to take credit for this breakthrough is the one systematically dismantling the infrastructure that made it possible. Phase 3 melanoma data is extraordinary news. It is also a reminder of exactly what we stand to lose.
Moderna and Merck done the work, private sector pulled this off, and you want me to believe it's cause some NIH bureaucrat had his budget line item. Cancer research been moving forward every decade regardless of whoever's sittin in them federal offices. RFK ain't shut down no trials and this vaccine got approved under processes that started years back so nice try pinnin the credit on the swamp. Maybe worry less about who takes the bow and more about the fact that it WORKS.
