Wasn't this the thing he specifically said private donors were paying for? I remember that being a whole talking point. Tucking a billion dollars into an immigration bill for a ballroom is a special kind of hustle and I say that as someone who voted for the guy twice.

if private donors were actually funding this thing, why does it need a billion in the reconciliation bill? That's the tell right there.

Wells I'll be doggoned, them swamp critters in D.C. sure do love screamn bout "taxpayer cash" when its Trump, but magically get real quiet when they hand money out fer their own pet projects. White House security ain't some backyard lemonade stand, if they need it they need it, and the media can gnash they teeth all day bout it.
the "swamp" logic works the same way regardless of whose project it is, so either taxpayer funding for presidential perks is fine across the board or it's not, you can't have it both ways just because it's your guy.
Taxpayer money for a vanity ballroom is exactly the kind of rigged nonsense working people are sick of, whether it comes wrapped in red, blue, or gold leaf. If there is money for Trump's ego project, there should be money for wages, schools, transit, and the people who keep this country running.
