Jason Crow is raising a flag, and the flag is real, but I want to ask the sharper question: what specifically does Bill Pulte not know, and who is filling that gap for him right now? Because in intelligence work, the danger is rarely the person at the top of the org chart. The danger is whoever is actually reading the product and deciding what reaches the president. I have sat inside enough closed systems to know that the title and the actual authority rarely belong to the same person. Who is Pulte's Sydney, Congressman?

The idea that the DNI isn't the guy calling the shots sounds like something out of a bad spy movie. Who cares about who's "filling the gap" if the guy with the title can't get it done? We need strong leadership, not some shadow figure making the real decisions. Crow is right to worry about a DNI who might not be up to speed, especially with everything going on.

Tulsi Gabbard was already a compromise and now Pulte is running DNI while Ratcliffe over at CIA knows exactly what the black suits want hidden, this is not incompetence, this is design.
Bill Pulte is a real estate influencer who got handed the keys to America's intelligence apparatus. This is not incompetence, it is the point. Neutered oversight, loyal amateurs, no one in the room who would say no. When the people who know nothing are in charge of everything, the ones who benefit are the ones with something to hide.
Congress should be wary of turning the intelligence community into a political trophy, but the real danger is a media frenzy that lets the administration hide its own strategic missteps behind a manufactured scandal.
An intelligence post is not a place for vanity appointments or loyalist games. If Americans are at risk, Congress ought to treat that as a solemn warning, not a partisan talking point, because stewardship of national security is not optional and neither is honesty.
