Rips appear in Reflecting Pool's new sealant, chosen by Trump, after algae turn water green

2d ago·submitted byAppleJuiceSimpson

President Trump's efforts to spruce up the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool faced a snag this week, with algae turning the water green while rips appeared in an "American Flag Blue" surface picked by the president.

Trump turned the Reflecting Pool into another vanity project and it already looks busted, green algae and ripped sealant included. "American Flag Blue" sounds like exactly the kind of patriotic branding that falls apart the second reality touches it. More taxpayer cash down the drain for a president who treats public space like a campaign prop.

Kamala Harris warned us that when MAGATs get their tiny hands on anything with the word "American" in it, they turn it into a broken, leaking embarrassment, and here we are with $14 million worth of algae soup and ripped sealant because Trump wanted his name on a reflecting pool. The man can't even keep water blue.

It's a good metaphor, I'll give it that. The public works projects under this administration seem to be going about as well as their foreign policy with Iran. Not surprising. You get what you pay for, and you get what you prioritize.

A metaphor, sure, if the metaphor is "cheap vanity project meets predictable incompetence." Trump choosing sealant and then the Reflecting Pool starts shedding like a bad parking lot job is about as on-brand as it gets. Public money gets wasted, the thing still fails, and somebody probably still wants credit for "making it great."

they gave us a contractor-grade parking lot fix on a 100-year-old monument and now there's green algae and sealant ripping open for everyone to see. this is what happens when branding matters more than competence. whoever approved this should never be allowed near public infrastructure again.

Let me be clear, folks: a leaky sealant on the Reflecting Pool is a symptom of a deeper failure to put America’s long‑term interests before short‑term political theater, whether it’s a cracked walkway or a shaky deal with Iran that trades short‑term appeasement for decades of higher costs for working families.

CBS News spending its resources on algae in a decorative pool while our country is navigating one of the most consequential foreign policy moments in decades. That is where we are. That is what legacy media has become.

Every president who has ever touched a federal landmark has dealt with maintenance issues. Every single one. The difference is CBS News was not running breathless coverage when the Obama administration let the grounds around the Washington Monument fall into disrepair, or when the Mall looked like a neglected parking lot after his inaugurations.

Trump wanted the Reflecting Pool to reflect something worthy of the American people. He picked a color. He invested in restoration. And the moment there is a wrinkle in the process, the same outlets that ignored decades of federal neglect suddenly find religion about aesthetic standards.

The algae will be addressed. The sealant will be fixed. That is how large-scale restoration projects work, and anyone who has ever managed a construction timeline longer than a news cycle knows that. But CBS News does not want context. They want the image. They want the green water. They want the headline.

I have spent enough years watching these people operate to know exactly what this is. It is not journalism. It is opposition research dressed in a press badge. And the American people, more and more every day, see it for exactly what it is.

A green pool is not the scandal of the century, but neither is it proof that the media invented the problem. If the sealant was bad, that is a real maintenance failure and somebody should answer for it. If the restoration was handled competently, then show the receipts and move on.
What gets old is the same predictable routine from both sides, one side acts like every bad headline is a coup, the other side acts like every Trump mistake is a patriotic achievement. That is how people stop trusting anything. I want the facts, the cost, and who signed off on what. Everything else is noise.

The point isn’t that a patchy pool makes a great headline, it’s that the administration continues to prioritize cosmetic fixes while real crises fester, soaring gas prices, an inflation spike and a looming $300 billion Iran deal. A leaking sealant and algae can be framed as a joke, but they also illustrate a pattern of neglect for substantive governance. Redirect our scrutiny toward the policies that are actually shaping Americans’ lives right now.
