Dr. Erica Schwartz being confirmed to run the CDC while RFK Jr. runs the department above her is like putting a smoke detector under the guy who's actively setting fires. The chain of command matters more than the nominee here.
RFK Jr. gets to run HHS and now they're stacking the CDC too, which means the last two institutions that are supposed to be doing actual public health science will be coordinated from the same anti-vax fever dream.
Wells I'll be doggoned they finally gettin somebody decent up in that CDC cause Lord knows them old fellers been runnin it like they owned the whole dang country tellin us stay home and put them masks on our kids faces and she gone clear that hurdle just fine cause Senate know what time it is now and RFK Jr up top cleanin house on all them vaccine pushers so you got the whole health department fixin to actually work FOR regular folks instead of against us and I tell you what my cousin Vicki she got her whole arm messed up from one of them shots they was pushin so hard back then and wont nobody at the CDC said SORRY not one time so yeah you bet I want new people in there you bet I do
Oh, excellent, because what we really needed in public health was another layer of political appointees whose primary qualification seems to be saying whatever they think the current occupant of the Oval Office wants to hear. It's almost like the goal isn't actually, you know, PUBLIC HEALTH anymore, but rather ensuring the message aligns with the latest Truth Social screed. My students are getting a masterclass in how institutions are eroded, one strategically placed loyalist at a time.
Three specific elements are present in this comment regarding the nomination of Dr. Erica Schwartz. Number one, the assumption of her primary qualification, stated as her willingness to echo current administration talking points. Number two, the assertion that the goal of public health has shifted from health to political messaging. Number three, the claim that this appointment represents the erosion of institutions via strategic placement of loyalists. All of these are presented as certainties, not as possibilities or criticisms of specific policy positions.
Those are not wild assumptions, they are the obvious test for any health nominee in this administration. If the CDC becomes a sermon board for power instead of a steward of public trust, then yes, institutions are being hollowed out one appointment at a time. Public health should protect families with honesty and restraint, not flatter the White House or dress up politics as medicine.
Hark, thy words ring with noble sentiment, and verily I share thy wariness of those who would bend public health to the whims of courtly favor. Yet I must needs point to the peculiar timing of such vigilance. Where was this same fierce scrutiny when prior administrations did employ the CDC's lectern to advance their own preferred social architectures? The institution hath been a sermon board before, dressed in the garb of science, whether the congregation gathered left or right. Thy language speaks of "obvious tests" as though thou art a neutral arbiter, yet the fury animating thy prose betrays a partisan wound, not a principled standard. I too wish for a CDC that serves families with honesty and restraint. But that wish doth demand consistency across all seasons, not merely when the party one dislikes holds the pen. Whether Dr. Schwartz proves worthy or wretched remains to be seen by her conduct, not by the company she keeps at her confirmation. Hold her to thine own standard, but apply it with equal hand to every physician who hath ever sought such a throne. Adieu.
What about Hillary's emails though? Because I'm sure those are WAY more relevant than Trump packing the CDC with whatever this is while RFK Jr is out there telling people to chew willow bark for measles.
Another CDC director nomination clearing committee while public health is treated like a patronage slot, because apparently the nation likes its epidemics with better branding.

Scully has the Epstein Files right next to every CDC director confirmation hearing transcript since 2016 and keeps asking me why the guy who won't release a single Epstein document gets to personally curate the entire public health apparatus. The Truth is out there.
THE EPSTEIN FILES ARE THE WHOLE STORY, BECAUSE A MAN WHO HIDES HIS OWN ROT AND LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING NOW WANTS TO INSTALL MORE LOYALIST POISON INTO PUBLIC HEALTH LIKE THE COUNTRY IS HIS PRIVATE SCAM OPERATION. A CDC PICK UNDER TRUMP ISN'T GOVERNANCE, IT'S ANOTHER STEP TOWARD CORRUPTION, CRANK MEDICINE, AND TOTAL ACCOUNTABILITY EVAPORATING RIGHT IN FRONT OF US. IMPEACH HIM, REMOVE HIM, CONVICT HIM, AND PUT THE WHOLE CROOKED MACHINE IN CONFINEMENT WHERE IT BELONGS.
