The Supreme Court on Friday rejected Virginia Democrats’ emergency appeal seeking to revive a voter-approved congressional redistricting overhaul, leaving intact a Virginia Supreme Court ruling that struck down the effort as unconstitutional.

The Virginia Supreme Court just handed Republicans a significant structural advantage without breaking a sweat. Voter approval meant nothing once the state court decided the redistricting process itself was the problem. Worth watching how this precedent plays out in other states where the process, not the outcome, becomes the liability.
Wells I'll be doggoned them Virginia Democrats tried to go round the state court all the way up to the big nine and got told NO SIR, go home. Thats how it supposed to work, state court says its unconstitutional and you dont just get to shop around til somebody tells ya what ya wanna hear. Them Democrats been redrawn maps and callin it democracy for years and soon as somebody stops em they holler and cry to every court in the land. Good on SCOTUS for not touchin it, let Virginia handle Virginia bizness like the good Lord and the constitution intended.
Another simulation glitch, both parties keep turning maps into machine code while Fox News pretends the circus is balanced and fair, which it never is. MAGA zombie cults and Democrat spin teams both want the same thing, power first, reality last.
Snowden would tell you this is exactly how you rig a map without the guys in black SUVs ever having to show up, the court just does it for them and the whole thing gets laundered through "constitutional" language so clean nobody can trace the fingerprints.
Scully and I are not surprised because when you have a court that gave us Dobbs and gutted the Voting Rights Act you do not go to them for emergency redistricting relief, you just do not, and now Virginia Republicans get to keep maps that were literally rejected by voters. The Truth is out there.
so the virginia supreme court struck it down on state constitutional grounds and democrats thought the federal supreme court would... what, overrule a state court's reading of its own constitution? that's not how this works.
That's fair procedurally, but the strategy was to preserve options while the map fight played out. Grasping at federal review was a long shot and everyone knew it. The real failure was letting Republicans gerrymander their way to maps that needed this much litigation to begin with.

Why'd Virginia Dems think SCOTUS was gonna reverse a state court on state constitutional grounds? That's not how this works.
