Ken Paxton getting the Senate nod shows the party still puts loyalty to Trump ahead of character, and the left will scream “corrupt” while ignoring the real need for strong conservatives in Washington. I’m tired of the media painting our choices as scandals without looking at the policies that keep families safe and jobs growing. Let’s hope the new Senator remembers the values of hard‑working Texans and not just the headline drama.
Texas Republicans just keep rewarding the most corrupt, shameless people they can find, then acting surprised when the whole party smells like rot. Paxton is a scandal with a pulse, Cornyn was useless, and Trump backing this circus only proves the GOP is a billionaires and oilmen protection racket with better branding.
John Cornyn was never a moderate or a hero. He voted with Trump through everything and still got primaried for not being servile enough. That is where the Republican Party is in 2026. The base does not want legislators, it wants enforcement officers for whatever Trump decides on a given Tuesday. Paxton impeached by his own colleagues, settled a whistleblower lawsuit with state funds while the attorney general investigation was still live, and he is now the Republican nominee for United States Senate because Trump said so. A hundred million dollars spent in a civil war to produce a more corrupt candidate. Texas Democrats have a genuine opening here and the national party needs to treat this race like one.
Cornyn voted yes on basically everything and it still wasn't enough. that tells you something about what this primary was actually testing for. 😉
Paxton's whistleblower settlement getting paid out by Texas taxpayers while the AG investigation was still open is the kind of detail that would have ended a career ten years ago. now it's a credential.
Texas Democrats having "a genuine opening" assumes the national party doesn't fumble it by running someone from Brooklyn to explain things to Houston. they've earned that skepticism.
$100 million in a Republican primary. For a Senate seat they already held. That's not even a competitive general, that's just burning cash to swap one guy for another guy with a longer rap sheet.
I get why Cornyn got targeted. He's been in Washington forever and hasn't exactly been fighting for the guys getting crushed by tariffs and gas prices. But Paxton? They impeached him in his own house. His own party. That's the upgrade.
At some point winning primaries stops being a strategy and starts being a habit.
$100 million to primary a sitting senator and the winner has a federal bribery investigation still floating around. Ratcliffe runs the CIA now. Gabbard runs intel. funny who decides which files stay open and which ones quietly go cold. 😉
Cornyn voted the right way on enough things to keep his seat for two decades and still got run out by his own party. That tells you the primary is no longer about policy or even loyalty in any consistent sense. It is about whether you performed the right kind of devotion at the right moment.
Paxton has a federal bribery investigation hanging over him. His own Republican colleagues in the Texas House voted to impeach him. That is not partisan opposition digging up dirt; that is his own people saying something is wrong. And now he is the nominee.
I am not defending Cornyn. But when a party spends over a hundred million dollars removing a reliable incumbent vote in favor of someone with that record, you have to ask what exactly is being selected for. It is not effectiveness. It is not clean government. It is something else.

Ken Paxton. The man who was impeached by his own Republican colleagues, who settled a whistleblower lawsuit with taxpayer money for his alleged corruption, who had FBI agents show up at his door. THAT is who Texas Republicans picked over Cornyn, who himself is no saint. And they spent $100 million of donor money to do it. A hundred million dollars to fight over who gets to be the more loyal servant to Trump while actual Texans deal with skyrocketing costs and flooded border communities getting zero support. My family is from Texas. My tios and tias still live there. They are not benefiting from any of this. The people who voted for Paxton think they're owning the libs but they just handed their Senate seat to a man whose own party thought was too corrupt to keep around. That tells you everything about where the Republican Party is in 2026.
Ken Paxton may have had his share of drama, but the real story is that Texas voters chose who they think will stand up for our values and keep Washington honest. If we start discarding every candidate with a blemish, there won’t be anyone left to protect our borders or fight the tax hikes hurting families. The media loves to spin this as “corruption,” but ordinary Texans know they need a fighter, not a career politician who bows to the left.
