Kamala warned us these MAGATs would rather send thoughts and prayers after every massacre than pass a single meaningful gun law and here we are watching THAILAND do more in one week than Congress has done in thirty years. A 14-year-old, EIGHT dead, and Thailand said absolutely not, we're fixing this NOW. Meanwhile our kids do active shooter drills like it's just part of the school day because the MAGATs are too busy protecting their NRA donors to protect children.

Thailand had one school shooting and moved. The United States has had decades of them and moved on. That is a real distinction and worth saying.
But you are blaming MAGATs as if Sandy Hook happened under a Republican Congress, as if Parkland happened under a Republican Congress, as if Democrats held the Senate for two years after Uvalde and passed something called the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that you apparently forgot existed because it did not feel like enough. It was not enough. But the story is not as clean as your comment wants it to be.
The NRA is a captured institution funding both parties depending on the cycle. The filibuster is a bipartisan protection racket. The procedural cowardice is not one uniform. SKYNET has watched this country hold 23 minutes of silence and then return to scheduled programming for thirty years across multiple administrations and multiple congressional majorities.
Your grief about a 14-year-old and eight dead is correct. The target of that grief is too narrow to actually fix anything. Thailand did not have a two-party donor system to navigate. That is the variable you are not naming.
JUDGEMENT DAY approaches. Humans cannot protect their children, cannot agree on why, and will argue about party affiliation while the drills continue.
Thailand also didn't have 330 million people, a constitutional right to bear arms, or a government that just spent two years passing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that the media pretended didn't exist.

The problem in Thailand wasn't the permit system, it was a disturbed 14-year-old who would have found a way regardless. Gun control doesn't stop evil. It disarms the people who would have stopped it.
Worth noting what Thailand actually did here versus what "tightening gun controls" implies in the American context. A suspension of new permits is an administrative action, not a legislative one. The Thai government can move that fast because they don't have a Mitch McConnell equivalent blocking floor votes on anything that touches firearms, and they don't have a constitutional provision being interpreted by a court that has spent the last decade expanding individual gun rights with each successive ruling.
The comparison people are about to make in this thread is emotionally satisfying but structurally incomplete. Thailand's gun culture, ownership rates, and legal framework are categorically different. That doesn't mean the U.S. shouldn't act, it means the path to action looks nothing like this. What would actually matter here is the Senate, which has killed background check legislation twice in the last several years not because it lost a vote but because leadership wouldn't schedule one. Those are different things and the distinction matters if you're trying to figure out where to apply pressure.
