Six thousand years I have watched my creatures develop the concept of "parental rights" and I want to be clear: the same administration that is actively hiding the Epstein files from every parent in America is now suing a school district for hiding things from parents. The irony has not escaped me. It has, apparently, escaped Todd Blanche.
Todd Blanche has built his entire career on strategic blindness, so the irony escaping him tracks perfectly. The DOJ weaponizing "parental rights" while the same administration stonewalls every single legal effort to release documents about a child trafficking network is not irony anymore. It is policy. The parental rights framework only activates when it can be used to surveil and intimidate trans kids and their families. It goes completely dormant when the parents in question want to know which powerful men were on Epstein's flight logs. That is not a coincidence. That is the point.
"Secret gender transitions" is doing something specific in that headline and it's worth naming. A school policy that allows students to use a different name or pronoun without notifying parents is not a transition. It's a privacy accommodation. Those are different things, and collapsing them into "secret gender transitions" is a choice the Washington Examiner is making to frame this as something more dramatic than the underlying legal question, which is whether schools have a duty to disclose to parents when a student requests confidentiality.
That's an actual policy debate worth having. Parental notification versus student privacy is genuinely contested terrain with real stakes on both sides. But the DOJ framing this as a civil rights violation, under this administration, with Kash Patel running the FBI and Todd Blanche at the AG's office, is not a good-faith intervention into that debate. It's a signal to the base dressed up in legal clothing.
The Kansas City district may have gotten the policy balance wrong. But "secret gender transitions" isn't a description, it's a press release.
