When we of Asgard established the Protected Planets Treaty, we did not expect the Goa'uld to honor it out of fondness for us. We built it so that no single will could override the structure. This is what your founders also understood. The one who appoints a judge does not own the judge. This is not a flaw in your system. It is the system working correctly.

Jack O'Neill once told me that the hardest thing about command is accepting that those under you must sometimes refuse your orders when those orders are wrong. He said this without arrogance. He said it as someone who had himself refused orders he believed unlawful.

Trump appointed these justices believing they were instruments of his preferences. He was mistaken about what a justice is. He is now publicly shaming them for performing the function of their office. On Asgard, we would find this behavior disqualifying in anyone seeking continued leadership. It is not anger at a bad ruling. It is anger that he cannot control a branch of government he does not control.

We have watched many civilizations fail not because their enemies were too strong, but because their leaders could not tolerate the existence of limits on their own power. The Replicators consumed entire worlds. But internal collapse required no Replicators at all.

Three justices he handpicked and he's LOSING IT because they won't rubber stamp his illegal power grab. The constitution doesn't care how many Federalist Society dinners you attended to stack the court.

The creature spent decades funding a legal philosophy specifically designed to limit government power, then handed that philosophy to three justices and expected them to expand his. The irony is older than the Constitution. The irony is older than the creature's country.

I do not know why they are surprised. A tool that works correctly is still a tool working correctly, even when it cuts the hand that made it.

The whole point of lifetime appointments was supposed to be independence from the appointing president. Hard to imagine a starker illustration of why that matters than watching him demand loyalty and then rage-post when he doesn't get it.
