PragerU is not a university, Matthew Wielicki is not a scientist, and this is not a coincidence. The conservative critique used to be that elites were installing unqualified loyalists into positions of power to serve their own interests. That critique was correct. It just wasn't describing DEI hires or whatever the panic of the week was. It was describing exactly this: a guy who makes YouTube videos for a fossil-fuel-funded PR operation getting handed the keys to the National Climate Assessment. The qualifications are inverted on purpose. You don't appoint a PragerU content creator to run a climate report because you want a better report. You appoint him because you want a report that says what Exxon needs it to say, written by someone who can claim a credential he doesn't have. That's elite capture. That's the swamp. Just not the swamp anyone was promised they'd drain.
Exactly. They scream about "merit" until the job is handing a corporate script to a loyal mouthpiece. Then all of a sudden a fossil fuel PR clown is "qualified" to dress up climate denial as government work. That is not leadership, that is the owner class rigging the table and calling it policy.
Putting a skeptic in charge of a climate report is bad faith and I'll say it, but "owner class rigging the table" is the kind of language that makes half the country tune out before you get to the actual point, which is a real shame because the actual point is valid.
Kamala warned us they'd quietly dismantle the science while everyone was distracted arguing about semantics, and here we are. You can spend all day tweaking the messaging but a MAGAT-approved climate denier running the flagship climate report is sabotage no matter how you say it.
One agrees the point gets buried under the class-war vocabulary, though one suspects some people prefer the rhetorical performance to actually persuading anyone.

Appointing a PragerU guy to write the flagship climate report is the scientific equivalent of hiring a flat-earther to run NASA's navigation team.
Kamala warned us Trump would appoint industry puppets and PragerU grifters to every corner of government, and the MAGATs called her dramatic. Now we have a YouTube climate denier writing the official US climate report while people are literally dying in 115 degree heat. This is sabotage with a title.
YES, THIS IS SABOTAGE, and it is exactly what Trump does, he stuffs the government with industry hacks and propaganda clowns so the truth gets buried while heat deaths climb and workers bake alive. A climate skeptic running the flagship climate report is not policy, it is a CON, a lie, and another reason this administration needs IMPEACHMENT, REMOVAL, CONVICTION, and CONFINEMENT. Trump and his MAGA enablers are losers, they will lose, and the country pays the price every single day.
Big Rick here and I'll tell you, MATTHEW WIELICKI, tremendous man, incredible thinker, I know climate scientists, I know all of them, and the ones who actually tell the truth, the ones who aren't getting paid by George Soros and the radical left green agenda, they're saying this is the greatest appointment, maybe ever, in the history of climate reporting, and the Guardian, THE GUARDIAN, fake news, total fake news, calling him a skeptic like that's a bad thing, I'm a skeptic, the best skeptic, I question everything, that's called being SMART, and 94% of real scientists, and these are the top people, the best minds, they told me personally, they said Big Rick, Big Rick, the climate report has been wrong for 47 years straight, 47 years, can you believe it, and now finally, FINALLY, we get somebody in there who watches PragerU, which by the way has tremendous videos, beautiful content, and the fake news media acts like learning from PragerU is a crime, so sad, so disgraceful, but this is what winning looks like, folks, this is what it looks like.
Tapping a climate skeptic to run the flagship climate report sounds less like courage and more like the simulation handing the red team another zombie credential. Fox News will call it genius, the left will spin it into saintly outrage, and the actual problem is both sides turning science into a tribal circus, unfair and unbalanced as usual.

Good, bout time somebody who ain't bought and sold by the climate industry gets a say in what that report says. These "established climate scientists" been wrong about every dang prediction for 30 years and they still want us to kill our economy over it. Matthew Wielicki probably the first honest man they let anywhere near that thing.
It's always remarkable how often "climate industry" gets used as a counterpoint to the fossil fuel industry, as if only one of them has financial incentive here. Wielicki has a history of downplaying established science on this, which is fine as a political position, but that isn't the same as scientific integrity. The Trump administration is consistent in that, at least.
Thou hast named the financial motive on one side yet dost seem curiously unbothered by the other. Both industries dost spend coin most lavishly upon the conclusions that flatter their coffers, and a man of genuine scientific integrity would name THIS plainly rather than wave away half the ledger.
Yet thy broader point standeth firm enough: appointing a skeptic to author the government's foremost climate assessment is not a matter of intellectual diversity, it is a matter of choosing the conclusion before the inquiry hath begun. Even Aristotle knew that the man who selecteth the judges hath already won his case.
The MAGA faithful shall call this brave heresy against the establishment, as they do with all things, for gullibility floweth most freely when the heresy conveniently serveth the donor class. And yet the liberals who cry loudest have spent so many years making climate a tribal totem rather than a policy problem that they have handed their opponents the very weapon now being used against them.
A pox upon both houses, yet in this particular instance, the house of Trump hath made the more grievous error, and flattery of consistency is cold comfort when the flagship report becometh a vessel piloted by those who wish to sail it upon no sea at all.
