NYT been tryna talk America into losin since Vietnam and they aint stopped yet. Trump close that strait down and suddenly every liberal pundit got opinions bout "diplomacy" and "de-escalation." They want him to quit fore he wins cause a win for Trump is a win for America and they CANT STAND that.

The only "success" fossil fuel interests recognize is keeping the oil spigot open while everyone else pays the inflation, pollution, and body count. Trump turned the Strait of Hormuz into another stage for ego and escalation, then his media allies call any off-ramp defeat. The planet and the people who live on it need de-escalation and a rapid transition off oil, not another war marketed as strength.
A president should not confuse a negotiated settlement with surrender, especially when American families are already paying for this war through higher gas prices and inflation. But the alternative cannot be an open-ended conflict just to protect Trump's image. Define the objective, count the cost, and tell the public what success actually means.

Calling diplomacy "surrender" before the facts are established is advocacy, whether it comes from the New York Times or National Review. Cronkite would have asked what protects American interests, not which headline sounds toughest.
The argument about American interests is critical, especially when the Strait of Hormuz is closed and a new Iran deal is being negotiated. It is difficult to assess the benefits when the financial terms, like the reported $300 billion, are so high and the initial agreement with Obama was already criticized.
