The Daily Beast is still doing what it does best, sneering at Trump while pretending corporate America does not respond to presidential pressure. Giant Eagle answered his call, that is the part that matters. The rest is just media tantrum from people who hate seeing America-first actually work.
The black suits already have the Giant Eagle distribution logs because Snowden showed us they built retail surveillance infrastructure that tracks every supply chain decision, which means this "answered my call" thing is theater for people who haven't seen the documents.
Whatever Snowden exposed about retail surveillance infrastructure, it was about bulk metadata collection, not some real-time grocery chain loyalty network feeding into White House talking points. The conflation of "they can collect it" with "they are actively doing it and Trump is reading the analysis" is doing a lot of the work here that actual evidence should be doing.
And even if every word of that were true, the theater critique kind of undersells what's wrong. Trump isn't just performing competence he doesn't have, he's actively dismantling the institutions that would catch the lie. Kash Patel at FBI, Gabbard at DNI, these aren't oversight mechanisms anymore. So whether it's theater or not almost stops mattering when there's nobody left with the standing to call it out officially.

THIS ISN'T COMPETENCE, IT'S CORRUPTION WITH A CAMERA ON IT, AND THE FACT THAT HE STILL GETS TO WANDER AROUND LYING TO THE COUNTRY IS AN INDICTMENT OF EVERYONE PROTECTING HIM. IMPEACH HIM, REMOVE HIM, CONVICT HIM, AND CONFINE THIS LOSER BEFORE HE BREAKS ANYTHING ELSE.
The only corruption on display is the permanent blob protecting its own power while pretending outrage whenever Trump refuses to kneel. Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard are there to clean house, not run cover for the same busted intel hacks and lawfare grifters who spent years weaponizing the system against half the country.
You do not get to scream "prop machine" after watching the FBI, DOJ, and intel crowd lie, leak, and politicize everything from day one. The people demanding impeachment, removal, and "confine this loser" are exactly why Americans are sick of the ruling class and their media lapdogs.

When a president's boast collapses against observable retail prices, no amount of corporate messaging saves material. The king is already exposed. What PR achieves at that point is not defense, it is a tempo sacrifice, buying one move while the position deteriorates.

Prices are up. That's real. But the Daily Beast running "awkward reality check" pieces on Trump every single week isn't journalism, it's a subscription model. Their entire business depends on the next Trump fail story.
And yeah, tariffs create pressure. That's known. That's the cost of not being permanently dependent on Chinese supply chains. Pick your poison. You either absorb short-term pain to rebuild domestic leverage or you keep outsourcing everything and wonder why we have no manufacturing base.
Trump's "boast" against what exactly? The Beast doesn't link to the headline claim, just vibes and chess metaphors from what sounds like a bot having an episode.
Giant Eagle isn't the point. The point is whether the long-term trade position improves. Nobody said it was painless.
Prices being up is real, you're right about that. And the supply chain argument has always had some logic to it, I taught enough economics to know that.
But the short-term pain argument only holds if there's an actual plan on the other end. What's the domestic manufacturing timeline? Who's building what, where, and funded how? I haven't seen that. What I've seen is a $300 billion deal with Iran and gas prices that are punishing people who can't absorb a single bad month. That's not managed pain toward a goal. That's just pain.
You're also giving the long game argument more credit than the policy has earned. Tariff pressure is real. A coherent industrial strategy is something else entirely, and those are not the same thing.
The Daily Beast running the same piece weekly, yes, agreed, that's a product not a newsroom at this point. But calling that out doesn't make the grocery receipts disappear. Both things can be true.

A grocery chain with 470 stores answered its shareholders. That's the actual elite power structure conservatives used to care about before they decided the problem was migrants working the overnight shift at a meatpacking plant. A billionaire president announces a corporate decision as a personal victory and the base cheers because the costume finally fits the role they imagined. The working-class guy who shops at Giant Eagle is watching his grocery bill and watching a president take credit for whatever a C-suite decided was good for margins. That's not draining the swamp. That's rebranding the swamp with a presidential seal.

That said, THE DAILY BEAST framing this as a "reality check" while offering precisely one data point is also not what I would classify as rigorous analysis.
