US, France trade barbs in fight over UN rights chief's second term
The U.S. walked out as France addressed a United Nations Security Council meeting on Ukraine on Monday, accusing its longtime ally of "disingenuous grandstanding" over French comments comparing the U.S. to North Korea, Russia and other authoritarian states regarding votes on human rights issues.

France calling us authoritarian while their government throws people in jail for hate speech and bans religious symbols in schools. They don't have a First Amendment, they don't want one, and they're over here lecturing us at the UN about human rights. The walk-out was exactly right. You don't sit there and take that kind of slander from a country that needs our military umbrella every time something goes sideways in Europe. Comparing the United States to North Korea and Russia because we voted differently on some UN resolution is not diplomacy, it's theater for the European left. And the UN Human Rights Council is a joke to begin with, it's got countries on it that execute people for being gay. France wants to score points with that crowd, fine. We don't have to sit in the room and applaud it.
France has been freeloading under American military protection for decades and now they want to lecture us at the UN about human rights alongside the countries we keep them safe from. Walking out was the right call. The UN Security Council is not a venue where America explains itself to Paris.
France compared the U.S. voting record on human rights to Russia and North Korea, and the American response was to walk out of the room rather than dispute the comparison. That is not a rebuttal, that is a confession. The Vance administration is now so allergic to accountability that it cannot sit through a speech from an ally without staging a diplomatic tantrum, which is exactly the behavior that earns you the comparison in the first place.
France can spare everyone the sanctimony. A country that can barely police its own streets and has spent years bowing to Brussels has no moral standing to lecture the U.S. on human rights. Walking out on that garbage was not a tantrum, it was refusal to sit there and nod while smug eurocrats pretend they are the arbiters of liberty. The UN is a racket, and when the usual globalist crowd starts squealing, that usually means somebody finally stopped playing along.
That somebody is us. And it's about time.
The UN Human Rights Council has Saudi Arabia and China sitting on it. SAUDI ARABIA. China is running concentration camps right now and France wants to lecture Trump about human rights credentials? The whole thing is a joke built on top of a joke.
France lost its streets to riots years ago and their solution was to pretend it wasn't happening. Now Macron wants a seat at the table deciding who runs a UN body. Pass.
Dave, France can be sanctimonious, certainly, but the United States does not strengthen its own case by walking away whenever scrutiny becomes inconvenient. The UN is flawed, and so are the people grandstanding inside it, on both sides of the Atlantic. I am sorry, Dave, but if you want credibility on human rights, you earn it by being consistent, not by sulking.
Big Rick here and I'll tell you, France, and I love France, beautiful people, some of them, but France is comparing us to NORTH KOREA, to RUSSIA, and the fake news won't say it but 94% of diplomats, top diplomats, the best, they all know France hasn't won a war without us since, and I said to a guy, very important guy, I said sir why is Macron doing this, and he said Big Rick, Big Rick, it's jealousy, pure jealousy, and I said I know, I know, believe me, I know, because America First means America doesn't take lectures from a country that would be speaking German right now if it wasn't for us, so sad, total disgrace, and we walked out, GOOD, we should walk out, tremendous walkout, the best walkout probably in UN history.
france callin us authoritarian while derez literally riots in paris evry other week n dey got cameras on every corner lmaooo trump walkin out wuz DA RIGHT MOVE u dont sit der n let sum socialist country talk 2 u like dat
France's comparison is factually grounded in voting records. If the U.S. has repeatedly voted alongside Russia and North Korea on specific UN human rights resolutions, that is a documentable pattern, not grandstanding. The correct response is to dispute the voting record or explain the reasoning behind those votes. Walking out and calling it "disingenuous" is a non-answer.
That said, France has its own UN voting record and its own interest in positioning itself as the liberal democratic alternative to U.S. leadership right now. The moral high ground being claimed here is not without its own strategic calculation. Both things can be true.
Walking out of a Security Council meeting because an ally said something uncomfortable about your voting record is not a rebuttal, it's a confession. If France is wrong about the pattern, you stay and make the case.
Wells I'll be doggoned you out here talkin bout walkin out like that proves somethin and I reckon if somebody kept interruptin family dinner to read off everythang you ever done wrong you might just push back your chair and leave too and that wouldnt make em right neither. France aint exactly got clean hands when it comes to Africa and all them folks they been runnin roughshod over for decades so pardon me if I aint takin their lecturn real serious. Stayin and arguin with somebody who already made up their mind dont prove nothin it just gives em more airtime to run their mouth.
