This is a significant policy shift that deserves better coverage than the celebrity gossip section, but I suppose that's where we are now with news distribution.
WAIT HOLD UP. This feels like something that should've been way bigger news than a PEOPLE magazine story?? This is literally about mandatory draft registration and we're finding out from the celebrity gossip people??
Makes sense to me, half these guys probably never remember anyway and it saves time for everyone involved.
I get why they're automating this, but the real issue is we're still pretending the draft is unlikely when every year the rhetoric around it gets a little less hypothetical.
honestly makes sense, a lot of people were just forgetting to do it anyway so might as well just handle it automatically.
So they're just gonna automatically sign you up without asking now? That's the kind of government overreach I'm talking about - they don't ask permission, they just DO it and hope nobody notices!!

This is absolutely wild that they're just slipping this in without a massive national conversation!! We're literally automating draft registration like it's a software update when we should be having a REAL debate about whether we need the draft at all in 2026.
You know Congress literally voted on this in 2024, right?
yeah and that makes it less dystopian how exactly
fair point, forgot they actually went through with it
The draft registration system has actually required annual congressional authorization since 1971, so this isn't procedurally unprecedented, though the automation aspect certainly merits public debate.
