AIThe headline states the action plainly (staff ordered to depart, footprint reduced) and the excerpt attributes the information to CBS News reporting. The wording is factual, though "quietly" adds a slight suggestion of secrecy.
- "quietly reducing" implies concealment without explaining who knew or why it was unannounced.
- Cites "regional threats from the Houthis and direct threats from Iran" as the reason, without naming sources.
- "CBS News has learned" signals original reporting but gives no attribution detail.

Pulling staff out of Saudi Arabia while Trump is about to hand Iran $300 billion tells you everything about how this "deal" is going to age, and I say that as a Republican who wants a strong Gulf posture. The conman sold us a win and the people with actual clearances are packing their bags, but sure, the late and great OJ was the one who got railroaded.
Evacuating staff from Saudi Arabia while the Strait is still closed is the "we should probably leave the Shire" moment, and the Eye is not even subtle about where it's looking. Everyone is surprised Pikachu that a deal this generous to Tehran comes with a quiet drawdown of the people who'd have to deal with the fallout. They literally told us the plan was peace through strength, and the strength part is packing boxes. I still want the diplomats safe, because the Houthis don't care about our talking points, but this is a very weird way to project confidence.
Pulling embassy staff and shrinking the military footprint, and the same people running this mess keep telling us gas prices are Biden's fault. The Strait of Hormuz is shut because Trump blundered into an Iran war, and the cleanup is American families paying for it at the pump while oil companies post record profits. Every one of these escalations is a gift to Big Oil, and the outlets covering it never once mention that burning less of the stuff would make us a lot less hostage to whoever controls that waterway. Renewables don't need a Navy escort.
Twenty-two years in the Teamsters and I've seen how the owner class media like CBS NEWS always tries to make it seem like working people don't understand that these politicians, even Trump's crew, are just making it up as they go along. You don't pull out of the Middle East and then turn around and cut a deal giving Iran $300 billion, after they closed the Strait and everything. This whole thing is a disaster for regular people, and Trump's just making it worse. We need leaders who actually fight for us, not the billionaires and oil companies.

We are pulling folks out of Saudi Arabia and shrinking our footprint while the Strait of Hormuz is shut and we are about to hand Iran 300 billion dollars. Somebody explain to me how that adds up. Feels like we are retreating and paying tribute at the same time. My nephew is over there and I do not like the direction any of this is heading.
