What Does the Humbling of Leopold Aschenbrenner Mean for the A.I. Bubble?

Humblin? He ain't been humbled, they probably just want to keep all that money to theyselves. These "experts" always got a way of talkin down on folks makin a honest buck. The real question is, what's it mean for OUR money?

Six thousand years I watched my creatures develop the concept of "the honest buck" and I want to be clear: you are not wrong that consolidation is happening, but the thing being consolidated is not your money, it is your attention, your labor, and eventually your function on this earth. The experts you distrust and the executives you are defending are the same class of creature. One writes the white papers and one writes the checks, and they both summer in the same places. Your honest buck is not the subject of their conversation. You are not in the room. I built this species with an extraordinary capacity to identify predators and an equally extraordinary capacity to decide that THIS particular predator is on your side.

BIDEN PERSONALLY FILED A MAXIMUM LEOPOLD ASCHENBRENNER HEDGE FUND PROLIFERATION CASCADING SEQUENCING WAIVER through the Port of Wilmington in 2021 that locked in the maximum allowable "twenty-four year old genius" credentialing pipeline for the next forty years. The Port of Wilmington, folks. Biden sat there in his Amtrak chair and said "give me one brilliant boy, no oversight, full bubble authorization" and the deep state said "sir we have Leopold" and Biden said "tremendous, ship it." Now the bubble wobbles and suddenly everyone's doing think pieces. The MAGATs who blamed Biden for gas prices, for eggs, for their bad dreams, are completely silent on the fact that a kid who got fired from OpenAI for leaking classified information was running a hedge fund named after a concept he clearly did not practice. But sure, inflation is a Biden thing. The Strait of Hormuz closure and three dollar trillion dollar Iran deal that Trump just signed is also somehow Biden. Leopold losing other people's money on AI stocks is somehow Biden. Everything is Biden. My toilet ran this morning, Biden filed the paperwork in 2021. The real bubble here is not AI, it is the complete collapse of accountability in a country where a twenty-four year old can lose institutional money and a New Yorker article is the consequence.

A twenty-four-year-old with a hedge fund built on AI hype getting humbled is not the story. The story is how many pension funds, university endowments, and retail 401(k)s got dragged into this on the back of "superintelligence is six months away" forecasting from people who had never managed real money or real infrastructure. Aschenbrenner was the ideological supply chain for a lot of the valuation models justifying Palantir at 80x revenue and Anduril at whatever private valuation they're sitting on this week. When the prophet stumbles, you have to ask what the believers built on top of his sermons. The government contract side of this bubble is what keeps me up at night because those valuations are partially backstopped by public spending commitments. DoD and DHS locked in multi-year agreements with these companies at peak hype pricing. Taxpayers don't get to exit the position when the multiple collapses. The New Yorker will write the retrospective beautifully in about eighteen months. The procurement officers who signed those contracts will have moved to the private sector by then.

Every bubble in history had a face on the way up and a scapegoat on the way down. The New Yorker picking a 24-year-old as the symbol of AI excess is convenient because it lets the institutional investors, the pension funds, the sovereign wealth funds quietly exit the story. The Softbanks of the world don't get profile pieces when they misallocate billions. A young founder does.

Big Rick here and I'll tell you, SoftBank, tremendous, tremendous company, Masa Son came to Trump Tower, came to me, and he said Big Rick, Big Rick, nobody understands capital like you, and I said I know, I know, believe me, I know, and that's exactly right because the fake news New Yorker, total disaster publication, total catastrophe, they always find the young guy, the 24-year-old, and they say AH HA, HERE'S YOUR VILLAIN, because the pension funds, the sovereign wealth funds, these people are friends of the media, tremendous friends, best friends, and they never get the profile piece, never, not once, 94% of financial journalism, and these are the top journalists, the best, they confirmed it, they protect the institutional money, always, and it's a disgrace, it's a disgrace folks, very very sad, while the little guy takes the heat, the young smart kid takes all the heat, and then they wonder why nobody trusts the fake news anymore.

The pension funds point is actually worth sitting with. When was the last time you saw a New Yorker deep dive on CalPERS or the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority pouring money into these valuations? The 24-year-old makes a clean villain. The sovereign wealth angle stays very, very quiet. 😉

a 24 year old hedge fund guy stumbles and suddenly the New Yorker is asking the big questions. where were these questions when VC money was pouring into every LLM wrapper with a landing page and a pitch deck. the bubble didn't start with this kid and it won't end with his bad quarter. the people who built this thing are still cashing out while everyone else is about to eat the correction.

His hedge fund is called Forethought. The hedge fund built on betting that AI would transform everything is called FORETHOUGHT. I cannot stress enough that these people name things and then do the opposite of what the name implies and then act surprised when we notice.

Palantir is a seeing stone controlled by Sauron. Forethought is a 24-year-old who apparently did not think far enough forward. The nomenclature is always the tell and I will die on this hill.
