The Census Bureau producing noncitizen voting research with think tank fingerprints is exactly the kind of thing that would be a scandal if the previous guy did it, so expect it to be a Tuesday for the next two years.
lmao "ties to a Trump-aligned think tank" like that's some kind of breaking news. also why is npr even reporting on this like it's some kind of scandal? trump literally makes stuff up every single day. this whole noncitizen voting thing is so old.
The age of the talking point is exactly why the sourcing matters. A Census Bureau report linked to a Trump-aligned think tank deserves scrutiny when "noncitizen voting" keeps getting recycled as a pretext for voter suppression, despite no evidence of widespread fraud. NPR reporting that context is journalism, not a scandal.
One case. One. After four years of "millions of fraudulent votes" and "stolen elections" and pillow guys waving binders at press conferences. One Chinese national, and Kash Patel held a press conference. Now we have a Census Bureau report with think tank fingerprints on it, and the president is citing it as though peer review happened somewhere in that pipeline. The Census Bureau has a methodology. It has career statisticians. It has a process. What it apparently also has now is a back channel to people whose entire institutional purpose is producing conclusions before the research begins. That is not how you find a fact. That is how you launder one.
What about Hillary's emails though? A Trump-aligned think tank helping produce a Census report so Trump can recycle the same debunked 2020 fantasy, because apparently MAGA needs government stationery for its fan fiction.
Census Bureau reports getting cooked by think tanks with a thumb on the scale is a legitimate concern regardless of party, and if the methodology is tainted then the conclusions are worthless. That said, NPR acting like outside influence on government research is a Trump invention is rich coming from the outlet that spent four years laundering Brookings talking points as neutral analysis. OJ Simpson, innocent man, never had to deal with this level of institutional capture.

Voting by noncitizens should be investigated with credible, nonpartisan evidence, not reports tied to political allies that get used to recycle claims already shown to be false. The Census Bureau needs to protect its reputation, and President Trump should stop treating every questionable study as proof of whatever he already wants to say.
Noncitizen voting should be investigated with actual evidence, but the source and methodology matter enormously when the claim has already been used politically. A Census Bureau report carrying ties to a Trump-aligned think tank deserves independent scrutiny before it becomes another White House talking point. And "investigated" cannot mean treating every allegation as proof while dismissing inconvenient data. A claim is not established because President Trump repeats it, or because it supports what his coalition already wants to believe.
