Charlie would have known exactly what this moment reveals. Not the distancing, not the rebuke, the silence that came before it. He spent years documenting exactly this pattern, the way progressive circles let rhetoric escalate until it becomes a liability, and only then does someone step forward to say the quiet part was too loud. Abdul El-Sayed is not standing on principle here. He is standing on optics.
Charlie used to say that the left has a tolerance problem, not a fringe problem. Hasan Piker is not a fringe figure. He has millions of followers and a verified blue check and full access to every progressive fundraiser and media circle you can name. Nobody distanced from him when he was building that platform. Nobody distanced when the rhetoric was warming up. They are distancing now because Politico has a story, and that is all this is.
American Jews deserve better than a news cycle's worth of cover. They deserve the kind of consistent, principled defense that Charlie gave without waiting to see which way the wind was blowing. Honor his memory. Do not let them perform concern for one week and then go right back to platforming the same voices that made these comments possible.
