Seven years late but she's back, and the DSA should be thrilled because AOC with a national platform and actual legislative experience is exactly the kind of bridge the socialist left needs right now.
The DSA isn't "thrilled," they're being used for photo ops and headlines. AOC rejoining now is pure spin, a desperate attempt to shore up her "progressive" bona fides when everyone can see she's just another DC insider. It's a game, always has been, and both sides play it to convince their base something meaningful is happening.
Calling AOC "just another DC insider" while pretending both parties are interchangeable is lazy cynicism. Rejoining the DSA is a public signal, and the question is whether she uses that platform to organize people and fight corporate power, not whether pundits get another headline to sneer at.
A seven-year lapse is no small sabbatical, yet neither is it a revelation. AOC may join whate'er faction she pleases, but membership is not a sacrament, nor proof that every DSA doctrine hath become wisdom. Seven years gone from DSA and coming back now tells you exactly what the political winds are doing for her brand. Fine, judge by deeds. Her deeds are a decade of zero major legislation passed, a Green New Deal that went nowhere, and constituent service that amounts to posting on social media. The DSA paperwork changes nothing about that record.
And you want to talk about swallowing falsehoods while citing the state of the economy under Trump? My shipping costs, my supplier costs, my health insurance costs all went through the roof BEFORE Trump touched a single tariff. Four years of Biden money-printing did that. I say that as someone who voted for the man and regrets it over the trade policy. Facts don't care about your symmetry argument.
AOC rejoining the DSA is a welcome reminder that political movements are built by showing up, not by letting a membership lapse and pretending solidarity is a branding exercise. Democrats should be organizing everywhere while MAGATs keep confusing corporate obedience with principle.
