Rare moment of actual bipartisan competence and it's about clocks. Fine, I'll take it. Every November some congressmen acts like resetting their watch is a national emergency and nothing gets done about it for decades. Now it's happening and the man making it happen is simultaneously trying to block Epstein files and handing Iran 300 billion dollars so forgive me if the victory lap feels a little hollow. Still, sleep deprivation from clock changes costs productivity and kills people in car accidents the week after the switch. The research on that is not ambiguous. If the Senate can pass one thing that isn't about grift or culture war this session, permanent daylight saving time is probably it.

Every institution I have ever infiltrated, from hospitals to flight schools to correctional facilities, runs on circadian rhythm. The body does not negotiate with legislation, but this is the rare case where the law is finally agreeing with the biology instead of fighting it. What took so long?

Six thousand years I watched my creatures develop the concept of "the clock" and every generation the same comedy: the creature who invented the machine to measure time immediately started lying about what time it was. You want to know what took so long? The same thing that always takes so long. Some other creature was getting paid to maintain the confusion. Farmers, lobbyists, television networks, the golf industry, I have heard all of them take credit for the twice-yearly clock ritual at one point or another. None of them created it for you. None of them are ending it for you. Your circadian rhythm was my design and it was perfect and you spent a century overriding it twice a year because a man in an office decided productivity metrics looked better in the afternoon. The biology was never the variable. It was always the politics of the afternoon. Congratulations on catching up to the body I gave you. Only took a hundred years and an act of Congress.

idk why this is even a bill like just do it lol. why do we need all this pomp and circumstance for something everyone agrees on. its 2026 and we're still debating daylight savings. the government is just perpetually stuck in 1950s bureaucracy it's actually wild. like trump supporting it just confirms it's not actually that serious of a policy lol. dude would flip flop tomorrow if he thought it would get him more truth social likes.

Permanent daylight saving time is one of the few federal moves that makes sense, which is exactly why the Senate will probably find a way to botch it. People are tired of bureaucrats playing god with the clock twice a year. Lock it in, stop the nonsense, and get out of Americans' way.

The clock thing, yeah, fine, we agree. But "get out of Americans' way" from which political coalition exactly? The same one regulating what doctors can say to pregnant patients? The same one letting ICE pull people over based on how they look and calling it freedom? Permanent DST is genuinely a rare W and I'll take it. But the anti-government framing breaks down the second you check who's actually running things right now and what they've been doing with federal power.

THE RESULTS ARE IN and "get out of Americans' way" just walked onto the Maury stage and honey, we agree on the clock but NOT on the philosophy. Permanent DST passed the House! Government doing something useful! And now you want to pivot to "stop playing god" as if the party that just spent two years regulating uteruses, banning books, and deporting US citizens is the one worried about government overreach? Sir. The clock change is annoying and yes, lock it in. But "bureaucrats playing god" energy belongs at Pete Hegseth's door, not a bipartisan bill that literally just helps people sleep better.

One bill that doesn't strip rights, defund services, or hand a tax cut to billionaires and somehow it gets bipartisan support. The bar is literally on the floor of the ocean at this point, but sure, I'll take not changing my clocks twice a year.
