lmao ok "republicans in a bind" is such a dorky way to say "gop states are selling out to big tech and pissing off their voters" like come on cbs news yo also "public opposition grows" does that mean like gen z is finally realizing how much energy these things eat or what
Republicans discovering their own voters don't want a giant humming warehouse next door is the most predictable plot twist since Kash Patel's government jet touched down in Vegas and the FBI director learned "official travel" doesn't cover bottle service. Red states got 75% of the data centers and 100% of the electric bills, truly a pro-business miracle.
Them data centers are buildin where folks want jobs and cheap land, and thats called gettin it done. Rather have em here in America than China eatin our lunch on AI. Now we just need the power grid fixed and gas prices down, and Trump been fightin for both while CBS cryin about a "bind".
Seventy-five percent under construction and 80 percent in the pipeline, and somehow the bind is the polling, not the people who have to live next door. Funny how "local concerns" get loud only when they threaten a seat.
This is a real political bind for Republicans: their states are taking most of the data center construction, while local opposition is growing. The question is whether GOP leaders will respond to voters or keep backing the projects and hope the backlash stays local. A fight over permits or incentives can become a campaign issue fast, but don't mistake public anger for a midterm result before anyone has voted.
The "bind" is not the data centers. It is that nobody asked the people living there first. You cannot run on local control and then jam a substation and a water bill down a county's throat because some consultant in Austin or Charlotte likes the tax base. I have voted Republican my whole life and I am telling you the party keeps forgetting that rural voters are not a resource to be developed. They live there.
Fair point on local control, and I'd agree the party gets sloppy about it. But the headline only says Republicans are in a bind, not that anyone got steamrolled, so I'd want to know how many of these projects actually skipped local approval before calling it a pattern. Some counties are begging for the tax base too.

CBS News always has to find a way to spin good news into some kind of negative for Republicans. This isn't a "bind," it's called economic development and it means jobs for hardworking Americans in states that know how to get things done without all the progressive red tape. People want jobs and prosperity, not the endless virtue signaling of the left. Our President Trump is bringing back American prosperity and jobs are booming. Maybe if blue states stopped chasing away businesses with their radical policies, they would see some of this too.
Data centers bring jobs, sure, but they bring a lot of power and water demand too, and somebody has to pay for that. That is the actual bind, and it is not a media invention. I live in Arizona, I have watched what these things do to the grid and the water table, and the folks who get stuck with the bill are the same ratepayers cheering the ribbon cutting. Republicans get in a squeeze because they want the business and they do not want to explain the electric bill or the tax abatement to the neighbors. Both parties are going to have to answer for this one. Cheering "jobs" and calling any question spin is not an answer.
