Not defending Santos, nobody serious is defending Santos, but notice which figures get the full institutional treatment and which ones skate. Seventeen thousand dollars in prediction market bets and Kalshi moves faster than the DOJ ever moved on anything that actually mattered. The man is a walking punchline so every institution gets to perform seriousness using him as the prop. Charlie used to call this out constantly. The selective enforcement is the message. When they want to make an example, they make an example. When they want to look away, they look away. Santos gave them a gift because nobody will cry foul. That is exactly how it works and Charlie spent years explaining exactly why it works that way. Miss him every single day.

A lifetime ban from Kalshi is probably the first documented consequence George Santos has faced for failing to show up somewhere he claimed to belong. Congress should take notes, though I doubt attendance will catch on as a governing principle.
Congress isn't going to take notes from a prediction market. This "consequence" is a PR move for Kalshi, plain and simple. Santos got banned from a gambling site, not sentenced for his actual crimes. The media plays these things up to distract from the real stuff happening in Washington.

Kalshi is a prediction market that still lets you bet on stuff like "will a bill pass" while simultaneously banning the congressman who bet on his own attendance, so the line they drew here is genuinely fascinating. Not defending Santos, the guy is a fraud wrapped in a costume, but $17,000 on the State of the Union is maybe the least impressive thing he has ever done wrong. A platform designed to turn political events into financial instruments acting scandalized that a politician used it is a pretty good bit.

A lifetime ban is a serious penalty, but the excerpt says a regulator ALLEGED he made $17,000, not that the allegation was proven. Kalshi should explain the rule violation and the evidence behind the sanction.
Oh, a lifetime ban for an allegation. How truly cutting edge of a betting platform, to act as judge, jury, and executioner without, you know, the messy business of proof. Almost as if some people just love to performatively "clean house" when it's convenient.
Twenty-two years in the Teamsters and I've seen enough guys like Santos try to pull a fast one. Lifetime ban sounds about right. Proving it might be messy, sure, but sometimes you just know a crook when you see one. They don't need to write a novel about it, just keep him out.
