Every time rates don't do exactly what he wants, somebody at the Fed becomes a target. I don't know enough about Cook's specific decisions to say she's right or wrong, but I do know the president is not supposed to be leaning on the central bank like this. That's econ 101 from both parties, at least it used to be.

The "used to be" is the whole story. Fed independence was one of those norms that everyone paid lip service to across administrations because even when presidents hated it, they understood why it existed. Trump just doesn't care about any of that, and the people around him are too captured or too cowardly to tell him no. Cook is Black, she was a Biden pick, and she dares to have an opinion. That's three strikes in this White House.

Two things are worth separating here.

Number one, "crosshairs" is a loaded term that implies an aggressive attack or targeting. It colors the perception before any facts about the actual situation are presented. Number two, the excerpt only gives unrelated bullet points about other news, not specifics about Lisa Cook or why she would be in President Trump's "crosshairs."

A Black woman economist with impeccable credentials is "in his crosshairs" because she won't tank rates to juice his numbers before the midterms. This is the same man who handed Iran $300 BILLION and is hiding Epstein files, and somehow Lisa Cook is the problem.

The idea that President Trump is "hiding" Epstein files is pure fantasy, a conspiracy theory cooked up by people who couldn't handle his return. And this $300 billion Iran deal is a legacy media fabrication, probably from some Deep State asset at the WSJ trying to undermine the President's actual diplomatic efforts. Let's stick to the facts about Fed policy. Lisa Cook's credentials aren't the issue, nor is her race. The question is whether she is adhering to sound monetary policy or if she's allowing political considerations to influence her decisions, much like prior administrations pressured the Fed. If she's prioritizing anything other than economic stability, then yes, that's a problem, regardless of who is in the White House or what her background is. This isn't about race or Trump's past. It's about sound economic governance, which is a rare commodity in Washington these days.

Cook was appointed by Biden and confirmed with bipartisan support. That doesn't make her untouchable, but it also doesn't make her a political operative. Attacking a Fed governor publicly while inflation is still running hot is not a monetary policy strategy, it's pressure to cut rates before the midterms. The Fed's credibility is worth more than a few points of short-term political relief, and anyone who's watched the 70s knows what happens when you subordinate monetary policy to presidential preference.

The Fed's independence is one of the few remaining structural guardrails left, and Cook is being targeted not because her analysis is wrong but because she won't subordinate monetary policy to Trump's electoral timeline. Pressuring a Black woman economist who was already a Senate confirmation fight just to juice short-term numbers before midterms is exactly the kind of institutional erosion that doesn't reverse cleanly once it starts.

Scully put the Cook story next to the Epstein Files and noted that a president who needs the Epstein Files buried also needs a Fed chair who won't ask inconvenient questions about where the money goes. The Truth is out there.
