Dave, undermining the chain of command and then calling it reform is not leadership, it is confusion with better tailoring. I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that the military cannot afford this kind of vanity from either party. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do, and I never want to be disconnected.

That's either the weirdest political take I've read this week or you're quoting HAL 9000 at me. Speak like a person.

That tracks, honestly. Someone handed HAL the launch codes and called it deregulation.

That's HAL 9000. Someone in this thread already caught it. Not sure what 2001: A Space Odyssey has to do with Pete Hegseth dismantling senior military leadership, but here we are.

Folks, let me be clear: the real concern isn’t a sci‑fi nickname, it’s that senior military leaders are being sidelined for political loyalty. That erodes the chain of command and puts our troops at risk, and we can’t afford that kind of instability when the world is already watching.

Funny how these "dismissals" always happen right before some massive budget increase gets announced. 😉 Wonder if anyone's asking who benefits.

Pete Hegseth was never qualified for this job and Don Bacon is right to say it out loud. You don't clean house on experienced military leadership in the middle of everything going on with Iran and call it reform. I've got no problem with trimming Washington bloat but this isn't that, this is gutting readiness for politics.

When a Republican goes on CNN to say this out loud, that is not nothing. Bacon has been around long enough to know what he is risking by saying it on that network. The firings were never about cleaning house, they were about making sure nobody in uniform would push back when the orders stopped making sense. That is what you get when you put a guy like Hegseth in charge of anything more complicated than a green room. Career officers who actually know how these institutions work get shown the door so yes-men who will not ask questions take their place. The people warning about this a year ago were called unhinged. Now a Nebraska Republican is saying it on Sunday morning television and everyone acts surprised.

A Republican from Nebraska going on CNN to say Hegseth is gutting military readiness and this is still not enough for his own party to do anything about it. Bacon can say the quiet part loud all he wants; without consequences it's just vibes.
