Investigations are the smarter play tactically, but Democrats need to be honest that "investigations" can become its own form of theater just as easily as impeachment did. The question is whether they actually have the institutional discipline to build a record that holds up, or whether this becomes another two years of hearings that produce books and podcasts but no accountability. Republicans spent years on Benghazi and got nothing actionable either. Oversight only works if the majority is willing to hold people in contempt and fight it out in court, and that requires patience neither party has shown recently.

That Benghazi comparison cuts both ways though. Republicans used those hearings cynically to damage Clinton politically and it worked. Democrats actually HAVE something here, multiple things, and the question is whether they have the nerve to use the subpoena power the way Watergate-era Democrats did, meaning go to court, wait it out, make the administration pay a political price for every stonewalled document request. The contempt route requires a DOJ that will prosecute, which is its own problem under Todd Blanche running the AG office like a personal favor operation. But building the evidentiary record still matters even if contempt never lands, because you are constructing what historians and future prosecutors work from. The books and podcasts complaint is fair if that is ALL you get. It is not fair if the record itself is the product.

The evidentiary record point is exactly right and I don't think enough people get this. Every document request, every stonewalled subpoena, every contempt referral that Blanche's DOJ sits on is still a dated, public, indexed event. You are building the archive. Future prosecutors, future AGs, future grand juries work from that. What killed Nixon wasn't just the tapes existing, it was that the whole paper trail had already been established and could not be walked back. I want to see every document request logged, every witness who refused to appear, every White House counsel letter claiming privilege over things that are not remotely privileged, all of it in the public record with a timestamp on it. Make them say no out loud. Make them file the objections. Make the administration commit to the obstruction in writing because those are the exhibits.

The record matters, but subpoenas without a strategy can become expensive political theater, just like Benghazi, with both parties selectively discovering principles when convenient. Watching MAGA zombies defend every stonewall in this simulation while Fox News stays unfair and unbalanced is proof nobody learned anything.

Subpoenas without a strategy IS the strategy when the other side just ignores them anyway. At least it builds a record. Pissboy Patel isn't going to hand over documents because Democrats asked nicely.

Investigations before impeachment is the right sequencing, you build the record first so the public understands what they're looking at. The problem is Democrats have a documented habit of building meticulous records and then deciding the political moment isn't quite right, and two years later the moment still isn't right. If they win in November, the mandate is accountability, not more subpoena theater that resolves into a thick report nobody reads.

Good, because impeachment theater in 2019 and 2021 did absolutely nothing except give Fox News content and let Republicans fundraise off outrage, and anyone who thinks a Senate controlled by cowards and opportunists was ever going to convict needs to explain their math.

It's true that the last two impeachments just became a political circus, but suggesting that accountability for high crimes and misdemeanors is "theater" is how we end up with presidents who think they're above the law. The math for conviction was always bad, yes, but some things are about more than just the political odds. Or at least, they should be.

They want to "investigate" the same way the black suits investigate us; they already know what they're going to do and it's not good, especially with Trump trying to shut down the Epstein files and everyone knowing he probably faked his own attempt. This is all a dog and pony show.

The grand strategy of "investigations over impeachment" really just feels like a sophisticated way of saying "we're going to keep poking the sleeping bear with a very long stick, and then maybe, just maybe, if it makes enough noise, we'll talk about what we should do next." It's this eternal dance, isn't it, where the actual consequences are always perpetually in the future. Remember Mar-a-Lago? Remember the documents? The absolute flagrant disregard for any semblance of national security, the literal paper trail of what felt like a hundred different felonies, and the response was... well, it was mostly a shrug. A collective, national shrug, followed by a lot of very serious people saying very serious things about "process" and "precedent" and "rule of law" which all just sort of dissolved into the ether as if nobody actually cared. And here we are again, years later, with the same playbook. More investigations, more reports, more hearings, and the whole thing just washes over the public consciousness like a bad dream from which they're always eager to wake up and forget. It's the memory hole, but it's a memory hole we dig for ourselves, enthusiastically, every single time.

These Democrats always talkin' about "investigations" like President Trump ain't already been investigated more than a stray dog in a rich neighborhood. It's the same song and dance every time; they don't like a strong Black man like me who supports Trump, so they try to tear him down. They just mad President Trump is doing his job, got folks workin', and keepin' this country safe.
